London folks: have you started putting the heating on?

Hi :)

just a light hearted thread to share experiences.

I put a little bit of heating on for 15 minutes (one pin on the boiler) this morning and felt really bad about it.

What about you?

Not yet but am wearing tights for the first time this week. Our house is old and cold generally and has been much colder than last week (around 16-17 degrees) but am trying to hold out until October before putting the heating on.

NewYorkLassie · 21/09/2022 22:17

I’ve never turned the heating off. It’s set to be a minimum temp which changes at various times throughout the day. So it doesn’t come on in summer because it’s too warm.

The radiators kicked in the other morning, which means it was cold enough for the heating.

CandyLeBonBon · 21/09/2022 22:18

It's 22 degrees in my bedroom! I'm boiling!

Prayitsok · 21/09/2022 22:22

Nope. Didn't even wear a jacket/coat outside today and I'm in the north. I won't be putting in the heating on until 1st November

Interviewhelp12 · 21/09/2022 22:22

I’ve definitely thought about it in the evenings, and to help dry the washing but I’m still wearing just a t shirt when I’m out so doesn’t seem right. Thermostat is 20 today but did drop to 18.5 earlier in tbe week. It’s funny how that 1.5degreees makes a difference. I’m going to hold out until at least October.

Jijithecat · 21/09/2022 22:27

I think it depends on where your house is situated. My house doesn't get the sun from about now until March. This really impacts on the temperature in our house.
I was at work today, 8 miles away. The sun was blazing through the window and I was too hot in a t-shirt. I came home mid afternoon and was chilly even with a chunky cardigan on.
When we eventually move I'll definitely be checking which way the house faces.

Bugeyedowl · 21/09/2022 22:33

Am in London. Not put my heating on yet but I have put an extra blanket on my bed the last few nights and last night busted out the hot water bottle for my feet! I'm a cold, cold fish.

HighlandPony · 21/09/2022 22:34

Jesus London? I’m in the north east of Scotland and I’ve not even put it on

FrankGrillosFloof · 21/09/2022 22:37

Not even close. Still got the windows open all day.

Sandrine1982 · 21/09/2022 22:38

Nope, am a snowflake but haven't felt need to yet. Will hold off as long as possible.

distracta · 21/09/2022 22:40

It’s 19 outside 22.5 inside. Pretty nice if you ask me!

Magissa · 21/09/2022 22:40

West London. Third floor (top) flat. It's currently 26.7 in my sitting room. No idea why. It has been hell all summer as it was every summer before. No underfloor heating and as far as I know the elderly couple below us do not have a cannabis farm. We have windows one side of flat only so no airflow as such. Sad

Nottidaythanks · 21/09/2022 22:42

No, still very mild but have popped some duvets onto the couch for evening tele sessions.

lovemelongtime · 21/09/2022 22:42

Jeez the virtue signaling from down south starts already. Live in Liverpool, 16 degrees in the house the last 2 days, WFH and yes it's cold. What more do you want me to say.

I'm on the Northumberland coast and despite having the door open all day for a toilet training puppy it's still 19.2 in here. Definately don't need the heating on.

TheLostNights · 21/09/2022 22:46

Wow. No. It's far too warm. I'm still sleeping with the windows open

TrashyPanda · 21/09/2022 22:49

East coast scotland

still got summer duvet on and sleep with windows open.

did wear a jacket when queuing overnight to pay respects to HMQ last week, but went out today in just a tshirt.

MooseBreath · 21/09/2022 22:49

Cambridgeshire here. Our heating kicks on when the inside temperature gets below 16⁰C. It came on for a couple hours twice this week, but otherwise nothing. I've been opening windows during the day.

In the south, lovely and warm, although did have heating on for an hour a couple of days ago. Still got the summer duvet on the bed, and a blanket on standby.

earsup · 21/09/2022 23:15

Yes for an hour the other night but only to check system was all ok as everyone turns theirs on at same time and if there is a problem you have to wait to get some one out to look at it....also bled all the radiators and topped up the pressure etc so all ready...!

AnonymousReader · 21/09/2022 23:26

Oh good grief no - I'm in London, still wearing shorts/vests in my flat and keeping all windows open. I'm using air con overnight as I struggle to sleep if it's above 18 degrees (set to 20 eight now to minimise bills though). When it gets below 18 in the house I'll probably start wearing joggers/ sleeves, at 16 I usually dress warmly, and at 14 I'll use the heating (occasionally). Not being a martyr or anything, but I really hate feeling hot and Im not feeling at all cool right now. Visited my parents in Scotland this week and thoroughly enjoyed the cooler temperatures, can't wait to be able to wear jumpers. I mainly only use the heating to dry clothes.
