Stamp duty - conflicted!

We're due to exchange on our new house any day now. We've been pushing for it, but now I'm keen to hang on til the announcement on Friday in the 'mini-budget'....

However I feel quite conflicted as this, along with a number of other predicted changes to tax/NI etc seem absolutely batshit in the current economic situation.

I was going to ask AIBU for wanted to profit from insane policies, but honestly, I know I am!

You’re not being unreasonable to not pay over what you have to. Budget is announced Friday, you should be able to stall this until Friday afternoon to see what happens.

But do you not want your new house? I’ve just packed up ready to move on Friday, if you started messing about now I’d be devastated? So many people to mess about in a chain, it’d be super cruel!

You are not unreasonable to stall. The seller would not be unreasonable to pull out and try and get more the same house as their property GM becomes more attractive if SDLT is scrapped.

The whole process has been a nightmare... we thought we were due to move in August and still nowhere closer it seems. Our seller seems to be the one with the delay now, and we'd heard nothing yesterday either (before I knew about the stamp duty) so I figured a day of just not pushing for information wouldn't hurt. I don't think we've had any news today either (DH dealing with it all).

Also, I'm 4 months pregnant so could do with moving ASAP, but could also do with that chunk of money for mat leave.... only one day to go til the announcement 😬

The policy is ridiculous, it'll just inflate prices as last time, but in your situation you may as well benefit if you can, it isn't your fault.

Truss is a muppet.
