To think some people need to toughen up with the cold

… and I’m one of them! 😫

anyone else?

I am ALWAYS cold. Even when it’s not cold. The only time I’ve ever felt satisfactory warm was during the heatwave. If it were up to me, the heating in the house would be on all day at maximum- which I think is 30. I would be SO happy with that. But obviously it’s too expensive and also my dog wouldn’t be happy with that, so we keep the heating at a normal temperature for her sake and I layer up. But even then I’m still cold. I could have a hoodie, housecoat, blanket, oodie, electric blanket and a hot water bottle and I would still feel a bit chilly!

for what it’s worth I’m absolutely fine health wise and have no problems, I’m just a massive lightweight to the cold!

I’m cold at work, in the car, in the house, outside, it’s just always so cold! At one point in work I would be in the room on my own and could have the heating at full blast- that was peak happiness and I doubt I’ll ever feel that happy again 😂

I bought one of these. They are insanely warm. Might be worth a try OP.

For me, it will be snow days only.

OP, what do you wear?
Do you have heavy wool sweaters? Thin thermal type vests to go under shirts? Long sleeved winter clothes. A ski jacket and fleece?

I worked with someone who was always cold but she wore the same clothes all year and couldn't see that you need to layer up, wear warmer stuff, thick socks, boots etc in winter. She just expected the office to be heated to summer temperatures and whined all winter when boss wouldn't oblige.

Yeah I wear thick wooly jumpers and thermal tops aswell- I usually put on base layers and tights too but still feel the chill!

oh that must have been annoying! I’d have been frustrated with that too, you can’t complain about the cold but at the same time wear summer clothes.

I’ll go and check it out now! Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll get anything if it means I might feel slightly warmer!

@Freezinginfrozen I was actually being serious!

I've all kinds of real wool jumpers, heated throws, heavy lined trousers, thick socks and I really struggle.

It’s the worst isn’t it! And to think it’s only September and it’s still going to get much colder this year 😫

People will most likely die when this winter really bites.

as dramatic at it sounds, even just the thought of 12-13 makes me feel cold to my bones!

Me too. Anything below 23 degrees is jumper weather.

picklemewalnuts · 21/09/2022 15:24

Do you warm your core?
Hot drinks
Kidney warmer
Scarf in the neck of your shirt
Wrist warmers
Hat

I wear sheepskin boots (Ugg style) in the house, and my feet are never cold. A hat makes a huge difference, but is less socially acceptable indoors! maybe a scarf of ear muff?

Basically I think we have cold sensors in particular places. Find yours, keep them warm, and it's revolutionary!

Cuck00soup · 21/09/2022 15:26

What about a heated Gilet? Really helped when I was working in a wind tunnel vaccine centre with the doors open at both ends for ventilation.

Soubriquet · 21/09/2022 15:27

I can’t tolerate the heat. Right now, I’m comfortable.

Colder, I will wear more clothing, but for now I’m happy.

I got really ill during the heat wave

Sistanotcista · 21/09/2022 15:30

OP - for me, this has been one of the great things about menopause - I am always boiling hot, no matter how cold it is outside!

Always4Brenner · 21/09/2022 15:31

Woolly thick socks for me it’s my feet that freeze also throws a heated one as well if needed.

Phrenologistsfinger · 21/09/2022 15:31

I used to always be cold - turns out I have an underactive thyroid! Levothyroxine has made me feel the cold far less and I feel warm from the inside now, which is life-changing! It also gave me energy to walk up stairs etc again.

The NHS would have said (and did say) that I was fine/normal as I was but getting my TSH from 3 to 1 made ALL the difference (had to get private treatment).

SweetLittlePixie · 21/09/2022 15:34

Im like you OP! Always cold. My house is heated to 23 degrees and thats my limit. I refuse to go lower and would rather quit the kids activities than the heating to save money (joking.. kinda..)
i also hate when people say just put on more layers! My face is still cold! My nose feels cold! No thanks. Im willing to put on a jumper, but im not gonna sit at the dining table in a jacket.

MarsupiIami · 21/09/2022 15:35

I'm always cold but I love cold weather. 30 degrees inside is my nightmare!

gamerchick · 21/09/2022 15:36

Warm your core first before layering up. Wrist and ankle warmers will also help keep you warm. You can also get heated jackets and such like which use a flat power pack you tuck into a pocket. There's no point in layering up an already Cold body if you're sensitive to the cold.

TheOrigRights · 21/09/2022 15:36

I am generally a bit of a lizard, but the cost of fuel crisis has coincided nicely with my perimenopause and I am feeling the cold a lot less.
Silver lining?

I used to hate being in a big shared office with 'climate control'. I was always cold. Before I could get a fan heater I had to speak to occupational health (heater had to be PAT tested so I couldn't just get on with it). Their wise solution was to eat more cake. I'm not joking.

DevonCat · 21/09/2022 15:36

Oh yes, I loved the heatwave too! If I'm sat still, I'm cold.

Am currently in a room that's 21 degrees and am wearing a thermal vest, fleecy sweatshirt, very thick wooly cardigan, jeans and sheepskin boot slippers. I feel just about right.

As soon as I exercise I get really hot though. On this morning's run, it was 9 degrees, I was wearing a running vest and shorts and I was fine.

100% agree 😁

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/09/2022 15:38

I always feel the cold, even in loads of layers.

Im allergic to wool, cashmere and all hair fibres. As well as polyester (fleece) it’s a nightmare.

SatInTheCorner · 21/09/2022 15:40

I have a disability that makes me always warm. Windows are still open all night and I've not yet put the duvet back on the bed (using an empty duvet).

Last year I onky put the heating one three times... in February.

Down side is that summer kills me.

Dixiechickonhols · 21/09/2022 15:47

It’s probably the lack of fat to insulate you. I lost a lot of weight and am cold now whereas I never was before. Maybe look at putting a few lb on if you are right at bottom of acceptable bmi. Years ago my office mate was always freezing - coat, hot water bottle and complained to HR. I’d been in that room for a few years and never complained - at time I probably weighed double what she did, she was really underweight - I pointed this out to HR but they didn’t get it.

Some of you are lucky you don't have Raynaurds.

I have Raynauds, my fingers swell up so bad in the cold i can hardly move them!

The only form of heating i have is a wood burner in one room (no mains gas here) Winter is a bloody nightmare!

Marellatea · 21/09/2022 15:53

I like the cooler weather and wrapping up. But find I get a really (really) cold nose!

I pray for a flush just to warm me up.
