Anyone had a Bone Marrow aspiration?

I have one this week, wasn't too worried but now I'm panicking

Partly why I'm having one
Partly the procedure itself
Partly the potential outcome

Anyone who can reassure me?
I did a search on here last night and only found one thread where someone's child literally bounced back after the procedure, but as an adult not sure what to expect

My daughter had loads. They take a few minutes they do numb area before and give you some decent pain relief but expect to be sore for a few days but not in so much pain you cant function just keep topped up with paracetamol. When she was little she would bounce back but as she hit teenage years they did take a lil more getting over.

As to why might not be for the obvious might be to see how bone marrow is making your blood so without results/your history hard to say why/what out come but try not to worry. Also often results can take a few weeks as the tests take that long to complete.

@sotired2 thank you for the reassurance. Yes ultimately the "only" reason I am having the test is to see if bone marrow is the cause(?) reason behind (?) an unexplained extremely high platelet count which has been ongoing for many months - I have been under the haematology team for a while

I have multiple blood tests, x-rays and ultrasound's which have all come back with nothing of concern (except the platelets) but at the back of my mind I know that this can also be used to test for/identify much more sinister things, plus the test is in the oncology department which I am much more aware of as a friend has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer 😔

I guess part of my concern is also (ironically) that this reveals nothing, as it's the "last option" in investigating why I have felt so unwell for so long and without a reason why then there is no solution to help me feel better either

I think it's just come to mind that it's actually happening today and I'm nervous on many fronts.

I have the afternoon off work and will be ready with painkillers the next few days

Thanks again for taking the time to post

Will be in oncology as they are set up for it and often oncology and hematology over lap so dont read too much into that. If other tests OK it probably isn't oncology related. Hope you get the answers and treatment you need.

Thank you for the comments, I'm home and resting up on the sofa. Currently still numb but have taken painkillers ready for when the local wears off
