To ask if this is chickenpox?

DS had a few spots on his face yesterday and by last night had about 20 on one arm, plus a few more on face and chin.

Slept a solid 14 hours (he is 5 and usually gets 11-12 hours). Woke up to no new spots.

I really thought it was chickenpox but it doesn't seem to be spreading and seems very odd that it's all concentrated on one arm (albeit all over that arm) and face, when they usually cover the trunk of the body.

Any grown ups able to help - anyone had a similar experience with chickenpox?

Looks like cp to me. Maybe a mild case or will get more in the next day?

mamabear715 · 20/09/2022 10:55

Looks similar but hard to tell.. chickenpox are extremely itchy, but then so are hives..
GP once told me one of mine had chickenpox, I knew damn well it wasn't & wouldn't leave the surgery without antihistamines.
(I was right, dear reader..)

Yes, looks like it to me.

Anothernosebleed · 20/09/2022 11:02

I did give him some piriton last night but it hasn't done anything so I'm not sure it's hives! Just seems really odd to be in one area of the body. Might call the pharmacist and see if they are happy to check them for me.

He has a private specialised educational psychologist coming out to assess him in class on Thursday for his EHCP tribunal so really could have done without chickenpox this week!

Had something like that years ago. And it turned out to be we had bed bugs from our holiday. But that may not be the case for you.

doesnt look like cp to me- looks more like bites
CP starts on the trunk and works outwards to the arms and legs

If you go on nhs Web site some very good pictures there
Does look like it to me ,the spots can just be mainly in one place my son had them on his feet with one spot on his back ,really sore walking

Heidi1976 · 20/09/2022 11:20

My daughter only got about 30 in total and most of them were concentrated around her neck area with others dotted about. If they look like fluid blisters soon then I'd say yes it's chickenpox.

Anothernosebleed · 20/09/2022 12:31

Took him to the pharmacist who said he thinks it is an allergic reaction. He had stayed at my parents the night before last so they may have changed their washing powder or something.

At least he can go back to school!

We had this last November and thought maybe CP but it turned out to HFM - and was infected on one twin
