To ask why you’re awake after midnight? (again)

I can’t find the old insomnia threads, so I thought I’d start a new one because I’m having a certified hell of a time falling asleep.

My brain just won’t shut up! I had a headache for roughly a month solid. Answer: it turns out I was severely deficient in everything. I’ve been on prescription-grade iron, potassium, vitamin D, and calcium since last Thursday and I almost have energy for the first time in months. But it’s enough energy to: make my pain even more noticeable, make me realize I hate the life I’m stuck in, and keep me from sleeping.

Why are you awake? Worry? Illness? Other people? Work?

Thank you and thanks for the thread op its great to know others are up late when it feels weirdly lonely at night :)

I wondered what had kicked off on here while I was asleep between feeds to get it deleted. When I'm awake tonight I'll pop back and say hello. The night feeds can be lonley

@etchysketchy88 You know, I’m sure he’s trying to better himself, but… he can also be a selfish twat at the mo. Those things are not mutually exclusive. I mean, yes, this will pass, but you’re allowed to be a bit fuming, when you’re losing your holiday for the second time, and this time the loss could have been prevented if he’d been more careful, and not such a careless twatwaffle. I’m sorry, OP. Take some time to yourself. Consider whether you still want to go on holiday by yourself (hey, maybe you do!) and good luck.

@mylifeisamess9 You know what? Sometimes, being an adult is just awful. It’s terrible. No one swoops in and saves you from everything and takes the weight of the world off your shoulders and gives you recognition for doing it all by yourself. And it can be lonely and scary, especially right after you lose a relationship and realise you have to do it on your own. And I know it feels like such a terrible time for it (food prices, housing prices, energy prices). But… all your baby will remember from this period is being safe and loved by you. Don’t give up. There are so many single mothers who make it through, and develop a great relationship with their children. I know it may all just seem so hard right now, almost impossible, but you’ll get through this, and so will your baby. “Courage, dear heart.” - CS Lewis

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee You’re always welcome back, any night (or day).

@54isanopendoor And so glad to hear that it helped you. That’s what this thread is for.

It was very good of @LivMumsnet to take the time to reinstate it (thank you!!!) so we could get sorted. And you know, just in case tonight is another long one for so many of us.

My elderly cat with dementia came upstairs wailing twice during the night. If I do not comfort her and speak softly to her she will piss on the bed.
I have experienced this once and do not want to experience it again.

5YearsLeft · 20/09/2022 17:17

@Bestcatmum WOW!!! That is quite some emotional blackmail! I wish my DH would wake up in the middle of the night and rub my back, but to be fair, I have never weed the bed in protest because he doesn’t. I don’t blame you for not wanting that to happen. Has she only done it the once? Is there any chance at all that she might not do it again? I know with a cat that has dementia, it’s ridiculous difficult. There’s no ability to be reasonable; she’s confused and doesn’t understand. Has your vet mentioned anything like Feliway that might help keep her calm? Maybe this would stop middle-of-the-night wandering? I don’t know; it’s really difficult and each cat is unique. Good luck!

Omg- I know that feeling. My poor very sickly old cat was deaf and if she woke and couldn’t see us, would cry until she found someone (or more often we found her because she woke us up). She would also pee on things if she was upset. They’re lovely and they can’t help it but it is hard work.

Shes a darling but just gets confused during the night and needs a cuddle
I have feliway that helps but I think this is my life now.

I retired a staggering 6 years ago,after 30 years night nursing
Am a ridiculously light sleeper
I live on the edge of a quiet village, wear eye mask, have so many books on sleeping. Go to bed at 11, falling asleep, sometimes I sleep an hour, eventually,(that was the break at work) then awake till 4 or 5. Did the Michael Mosley thing.... get up if you aren't asleep within 20 minutes,go to bed when you feel tired. I don't feel tired then, I go into night shift mode, stay awake and feel absolutely dreadful
Got health issues now, which keep me awake, worry about the kids joins in. Sleeping tablets don't work on me,my system seems to fight them. I'm still alive, don't appear to suffer from lack of sleep... just had bloods all normal range, just try not to worry about it.

Chatterboxy · 20/09/2022 19:13

Too many glasses of bubbles! Always sleep crap after drinking! Doesn’t happen often. Early night tonight! 😴

My darn kitten seems to be preparing me for another night of parkour, the little bugger. I may take him for a walk or bribe someone else to.

NooNooHead1981 · 21/09/2022 15:42

@5YearsLeft Thank you, yes chronic illness is horrid. I hate my stupid condition, it sucks. It was caused by some prescribed psychotropic meds which make it suck even more, and it is a bit like Tourette's and Parkinson's combined. I get uncomfortable involuntary movements of various body parts and mainly my tongue/face, so it can be pretty embarrassing too.

I hope you got some sleep last night 💖
