AIBU to need a very stiff drink after watching that all day?

Spent most of today in tears.

Brought out the coffin from Westminster Hall, cried my eyes out.
Saw Charles wipe away a tear, cried my eyes out.
Heard beautiful choir with lovely angelic voices...cried my eyes out.
Taking the orb and spectre, the Crown Jewels away...cried
Final speech sending Queen Elizabeth II and all her titles to be laid to rest...sobbed
Hailing the new King and his titles....cried too.

I now need a stiff drink.

What is it going to be?

She was monarch over quite a few massacres of innocent civilians by British army none of which she commented on. Not taking away from her later efforts in terms of reconciliation, eg in Ireland but maybe read your history

Gin and dubonnet with ice and lemon.

God bless her. I cannot believe the Queen has gone; I just can’t.

The Queens family did her proud.
Her staff did her proud.
HM Armed Forces did her proud.
The people of the UK did her proud.
The media channels did her proud.
Whoever did the flowers, cleaned up, kept the crowds in order did her proud.
The Police, Security, MI5 and Intelligence Services did her (and us) proud.

I’m not a drinker but I need to raise a glass to Her Majesty this evening. After watching todays events it’s little wonder other countries are in awe of the UK.

Im proud to be British.

Cheers Your Majesty 🍷
Your duty is done. You served us well until the very end. Rest in Eternal Peace now with your beloved Philip ❤️

We gave her the send off she truly deserved, I also felt very proud.

I came to mumsnet looking for reassurance I’m not the only unanticipated emotional mess, glad this is the first I found and I won’t look further.

I was sad when I heard the news of her passing but hardly a mess. Today I was fine until St George’s when they removed the crown and I saw Charles at the head of the coffin and I wanted to hug the grief stricken man. His expression pained me. I also kept thinking, the crown belongs to her, she needs to keep the crown! And then the bagpipes fading away.

Ive been tearful on and off since but expect I’ll feel less wobbly tomorrow when life kicks back in.

JanePrentiss · 19/09/2022 21:05

I was fine until BBC showed Paddington 2 and at the end his auntie was waiting for him... The thought of her family no longer seeing her made me wobble, and then the thought of her reuniting with Philip and her family made me wobble 😭

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2022 21:06

I cried as the bag pipe guard made his way out of St George's chapel. A lovely sad lament.
It was just so poignant and beautifully done

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 19/09/2022 21:07

I am one beer in and 2 glasses of rose.
Feeling a bit more relaxed now.

Windsor broke me! I'm normally an unemotional rock but for some reason, from the news she had gone until today, I have become an emotional wreck that's incapable of hearing the national anthem!

91BlackCat · 19/09/2022 21:12

I am just pleased things will go back to normal now. Those 11 days of mourning have been to much for me. Not anti royal family, just weary of it all.

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 19/09/2022 21:12

Good night and God bless our much loved Queen.

Unbridezilla · 19/09/2022 21:17

Emma, with the queen's headscarf on her saddle (that QE would wear to ride in instead of a hat) was just beautiful. Touches like that show the staff themselves really care, like it was their own little tribute.

saoirse31 · 19/09/2022 21:25

She was a good servant of her country, no one could disagree with that. But should she have been? Should she have ignored what her army was doing in
many countries?

LouLou198 · 19/09/2022 21:39

I feel drained! Goodness knows how the royal family must be feeling. The corgis, George and Charlotte singing and Kirsty Young all set me off!

Callipygion · 19/09/2022 21:50

I’ve been sobbing on and off all day seeing the grief on the faces of the family following the coffin, with the marching band music and the pipers. The horse and corgis finished me off good and proper at Windsor. Then the bearer party going up those steps! I’ve stupidly been watching all the repeats of the day programmes too. God I’m a snivelling wreck!

mostlysunnywithshowers · 19/09/2022 21:54

I would say that is exactly what is needed. HM herself would agree.

I too spent most of the day on and off crying. I am not a religious person but I thought the Westminster service was very moving and I could totally see the symbolism of the angelic voices spiriting the soul away into the lofty heights of the Abbey. I thought I was ok for the committal, as by then I had already thought of her as 'gone', but then removing the sceptre and orb and crown... as if she were just plain old Elizabeth again, I wasn't ready for that. Tears.

The most moving thing over the past 10 days has been the emotion of the crowds and the people they interview on the news, breaks me every time. I am thankful it is done now, I don't think I have any more mourning in me.

BMW6 · 19/09/2022 22:01

I think the phrase "Well done, good and faithful servant" is appropriate

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 19/09/2022 22:02

took the kids to parkour today then ate a massive KFC, feeling great 👍🏻

I'm putting the baby to bed then fixing myself a large one. Similar to you, OP, I cried a lot today. Especially seeing her horse there 😭

And the corgis 🥲

Have you nothing better to do than sit and watch BBC all day, every day??

Im loving catching up with Royal events. I‘m not glued to the TV though. Life, for me, continues as normal. I catch up with Royal Events because I can. If I wasn’t interested I would watch another channel, if I had nothing better to do than watch TV 🤷🏻‍♀️
