AIBU to need a very stiff drink after watching that all day?

Spent most of today in tears.

Brought out the coffin from Westminster Hall, cried my eyes out.
Saw Charles wipe away a tear, cried my eyes out.
Heard beautiful choir with lovely angelic voices...cried my eyes out.
Taking the orb and spectre, the Crown Jewels away...cried
Final speech sending Queen Elizabeth II and all her titles to be laid to rest...sobbed
Hailing the new King and his titles....cried too.

I now need a stiff drink.

What is it going to be?

It was a lot more emotional than I thought it would be. Had a beer just now. I hope the family have some sort of time privately now. They've literally been on parade all day.

Sparklingbrook · 19/09/2022 19:01

I watched more than I should have. Impressed with all the precision and organisation but fairly dry eyed. Then they got to Windsor and Emma the pony and the two Corgis made my eyes leak slightly, and again when Charles looked bereft. I'm ok again now. Wine

Pinkflipflop85 · 19/09/2022 19:09

I didn't think I would get as upset as I have today. Non stop leaky eyes. The pony tipped me over the edge!

I'm blaming unresolved trauma.

TrueNorthernBird · 19/09/2022 19:09

I bloody hope the Kings Butler at Windsor has a stiff single malt poured for His Majesty around 9pm this evening. If I were His Maj, I'd down it before boarding the helicopter and Fucking Orf to Highgrove and one's dogs. I'd want another crystal tumbler of the amber nectar awaiting my arrival.

Then I'd take to my bed.

What set me off was the end when they showed brief clips of the day and the lovely music over it. I'd managed to (just) keep it together until then.

Same.
And Emma the pony.
And Edward and Sophie with their hankies out at Westminster.

Gonna be a couple of large brandies for me tonight, 🥃 with a pack of cheddars and a chunk of cheese to nibble on. 🧀 I will be toasting her Majesty, and then toasting our new KING! 👑

I cried a bit too. Especially as she came in at the beginning. And when she got to WINDSOR. OMG there were sooooooooooooooo many people. Well into the millions from start to finish (London to Windsor.)

Amazing to see such love and respect for our wonderful Queen, and the Royal family. Smile They are loved by so many.

OhAmBackAgain · 19/09/2022 19:12

I haven't watched much since she died, and wasn't fussed about watching the funeral, but had the telly on around 9.30am then got mesmerised by it all. I watched it all whilst following the lovely threads covering it.

I wasn't emotionally at all just interesting watching the precision and organising of it all but..........then.............the ...........pony😢

I do admire and appreciate what the Royals have had to do in the last 10 days. They must be exhausted and in desperate need of rest and their own mourning now.

FrazzledFirefly · 19/09/2022 19:13

I've watched the service all day and I feel emotionally wrung out now. Only got a bit choked up a few times throughout the day, but I think it was the length of time and everything it showed which has made me feel so worn out now.

Feel so sorry for King Charles - he must be absolutely shattered. Hope he'll now have chance to rest and grieve in private.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 19/09/2022 19:13

It has been raining half the day here (on the cusp of the north,) but I am SO glad that it stayed nice and dry down south... I would have hated all of the procession, and the wonderful people who had queued for so long, to have ended up soaking wet from the rain!

Aww bless you all. I don't drink but sometimes wish I did!
What a lovely thread. Please don't visit some of the others about today. Very sad & hurtful.
Have a drink for me too, please, I DID read them.. :-(

🙄

VioletTopaz · 19/09/2022 19:14

Emma the pony, and Muick and Sandy the corgis set me off.
I’d just about held it together after seeing Edward and Sophie.
Then Kirsty Young getting emotional set me off again. Then the montage.
Defo need a stiff drink.
😥🥃

claracluck1978 · 19/09/2022 19:15

I've been upset all week but I surprised even myself today. I have watched the whole event and have cried more than I expected. However, I feel 'done' now. I'll raise a gin and dubonnet at 7.30'as she is finally laid to rest with Philip but I can't imagine any more tears.

Goodnight Ma'am

BorisJohnsonsBarber · 19/09/2022 19:15

Large glass of crisp white in my hand. It’s what the Queen would have wanted😉

LadyLyndon · 19/09/2022 19:19

Seeing Edward wipe his eyes and blow his nose made me quite sad. Then Emma. 😢Then the corgis 😭😭😭😭😭

I hope Charles drinks a massive glass of Single Malt tonight,he deserves it. But look at the time. They are interring HM in 10 mins 😔

gogohmm · 19/09/2022 19:20

Just polished off a bottle of wine here, two of us I should add and now cradling a g&t

CurrentHun · 19/09/2022 19:21

I cried seeing the flowers being thrown to the Queen’s coffin as the funeral car went along. The hearse turning up at Windsor still covered with flowers from an affectionate public was really beautiful. Respect and love for HMQ made so visible.
I also really hope that the pallbearers who were absolutely heroic, are having a stiff drink together right now. What an amazing spectacle the state funeral was. Congratulations to all of the organisers and everyone who took part, and also the BBC coverage of it which was equally faultless.

Hope the royal family are all having a stiff drink and finally able to be private together at this point in the day too. I can’t imagine being able to get through a family bereavement in public like that.

CurrentHun · 19/09/2022 19:21

Kirsty Young also made me cry!

LouLou789 · 19/09/2022 19:22

I haven’t shed a tear today, but what made both DH and me cry was when the coffin arrived at the palace from Scotland on Wednesday night and the police motorcyclists escorted it to the gates then bowed their heads as it passed. Such a simple, beautiful gesture.

I hope everyone who feels emotionally wrung out can relax this evening,

lollipoprainbow · 19/09/2022 19:22

Been slowly drinking a bottle of pink champagne all day, found it all very emotional. Windsor more so than Westminster. I expect to have a splitting headache in the morning !

ElectedOnThursday · 19/09/2022 19:26

The coffin on the gun carriage 😢
It just looked so lonely

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 19:27

I've got a bit of a headache from crying , It took me by surprise at how emotional I was especially when she arrived at Windsor. I haven't got any booze in so I'm having a coffee.

AceofPentacles · 19/09/2022 19:32

I'm exhausted I don't know how the RF must be feeling.
The piper got me
And Charles almost breaking down
Then flipping Kirsty Young! I was sure she wasn't going to get through that speech 😩

I don't drink but I've gone to bed to catch up on Corrie for some light relief

TheMagicDeckchair · 19/09/2022 19:33

Only watched the Westminster part as young family wouldn’t tolerate sitting through the whole thing. From the comments here it sounds really emotional. I shed a few tears on the evening of the Queen’s death.

I have also felt deep sadness for the family, their grieving laid bare to the world. I am pleased to see the support that has been shown for Charles in his new role. I felt he received undue bad press in his younger days over Diana so it is good to see the outpouring of public support for him.

If I can get the little ones settled I may have a drink in honour of Elizabeth.

BobbysGirly · 19/09/2022 19:42

The Queens family did her proud.
Her staff did her proud.
HM Armed Forces did her proud.
The people of the UK did her proud.
The media channels did her proud.
Whoever did the flowers, cleaned up, kept the crowds in order did her proud.
The Police, Security, MI5 and Intelligence Services did her (and us) proud.

I’m not a drinker but I need to raise a glass to Her Majesty this evening. After watching todays events it’s little wonder other countries are in awe of the UK.

Im proud to be British.

Cheers Your Majesty 🍷
Your duty is done. You served us well until the very end. Rest in Eternal Peace now with your beloved Philip ❤️
