... in your birthday -
"I hope you've been spoilt rotten".

well actually no I haven't actually. I'm a single mum and the only people who get me a card is my parents and sibling (of which I'm very greatful for!).
Actually I bought myself a gift from my children. That's it.

But no I've not been spoilt rotten so leave me alone!!!!

Know exactly what you mean.

Although anyone who knows yr situation should really think before saying such things.

How old are your DC?

laalaaleelee · 17/09/2022 23:08

I hate it - it's just a cringey thing to say

I agree with this - I think people do have good intentions when they say it, but it’s become a platitude that people can write or say without thinking. I hope you have a lovely birthday OP 🎉

I hate the word rotten. People on here use it over the top e.g:
I’ve got a rotten cold
I’ve been feeling so rotten and snotty

Stoptheworld1000 · 17/09/2022 23:26

Im completely with you on this. If it wasn't for my kids I just would'nt even bother with my birthday. I get a cake, put banners up etc. It's all for their benefit. Their dad let's them choose a choc bar for me. Yawn!

Yes, me too. Its such a shallow things to say. Probably well meant but no, I've not been spoilt rotten by anyone for a very long time.
