To think this is suspicious?

I was out a walk with my dog this morning and came back to a note on my car. A lady had reversed into my car, her note was apologetic and she left her name and number. Upon looking at my car there are a few scratches on the front of it, I probably wouldn't have noticed if not for the note.

I called the lady this afternoon and said that I would be in touch with my insurance. She said she'd rather not go through insurance and could I just get quotes to fix the scratches and she will pay me directly? I said okay but after thinking about it am feeling a little uncomfortable. Surely that is what insurance is there for, why would she want to pay the fees herself? I feel I may be leaving myself in the position of getting ripped off here.

She also asked for my name etc. AIBU to follow my gut and go ahead and contact my insurance?

Just go get a quote and take the money, you don't need to get it repaired if you do t want to

People lose their no claim bonus when going through insurance and their premiums go up. She’s been honest with you and you yourself said the damage was minor I think it would be mean of you to then insist she loses her no claim bonus when she has offered to resolve her mistake.

If it's a few scratches, try some T Cut, never understand why every tiny thing has to be insurance, even if you're not at fault does still affect your premiums, also she could then deny it.

Im sure she just wants to avoid a claim. I would give her 2 weeks and if shes not being reasonable Id notify your insrance. If you can go privately its much better for both of you! Especially if minor damage

hewouldwouldnthe · 17/09/2022 17:37

the excess you'd pay wouldnt cover it and your policy will go up on renewal. lose lose

icallitaday · 17/09/2022 17:38

She was honest enough to leave a note and tell you what had happened- considering you'd never of noticed anyway so was very honest of her an genuine

I'd just do it privately an let her pay, it is quicker an he cheaper in the long run for you both, If the scratches are fixed what's the problem ??

The lady said what I would have said… I would pay for it doing private too as why would anyone want to wait for the insurance and pay more. But it’s up to you what you do.. how could you possibly get ripped off ? You take to a garage get the work done the key pays ? Simple
