To ask how not to stink in the morning?

Thealarmhasgoneoffagain · 17/09/2022 09:07

Name changed.

I shower every morning, use deodorant, clean clothes etc. I don't smell during the day.

I wear clean, loose pjs each night. Generally thinish cotton. But oh my, when I wake up, I REEK between my legs! Sometimes I do get hot/sweaty at night (I wake up drenched sometimes) so I know why on those days but other days, like last night I sleep normally, wake up fine and just stink. It's not BV.

It doesn't make much difference if I shower before bed. Other people are still able to smell it in the morning.

I've tried knickers/no knickers and wearing panty liners but that makes no difference either.

Help! I'm due to share a room with a friend in a few weeks.

What is the smell? Sweaty/BO? Fishy? Fungal?

Everylittlethingsgonnabealright · 17/09/2022 10:56

Oh and make sure you’re getting loads of sleep consistently and drinking enough water - it helps your body refresh and helps your digestion. Tbh I would try diet, water and sleep first unless you have any symptoms that might need a GP’s help.

Itsybitsytitsy · 17/09/2022 10:56

If I eat fish, the next morning I smell of fish. It only happens when I eat fish. I only eat fish now when I know I am not at work the next day! Could yours be food related?

Gmamaofboys13 · 17/09/2022 10:57

Dettol antibacterial soap bars?

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/09/2022 10:57

Go see GP/sexual health clinic and check it isn’t thrush/BV/etc.

Wash your outer bits with mild soap (just shower head rinse on inner bits) before bed and dry properly - it could be sweat from the day that grows bacteria overnight

Try Dermol 500 moisturiser on tops of your thighs - it’s anti-bacterial and I find it helps with sweaty boobs in summer. There are various powders that do similar but check they are OK for that area - talc is not.

Once a week use a mild exfoliator - outer bits only OBVIOUSLY - but it gets rid of dead skin which helps

Tell your mate you have a bit of an infection that’s being treated, to pre-empt her noticing - and then get up early and jump in the shower.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 17/09/2022 10:59

If you've been tested for BV and it's not BV, then if could be thrush instead.

When there's an abundance of bacteria (BV) there's not likely to be much fungus, but when there's not enough bacteria, fungus thrives.

Both smell.

If it smells oniony-garlicky though it's probably BV.

JaceLancs · 17/09/2022 11:03

Could it be hormonal?
After being low or no smell for years I recently started HRT and noticed it increased - then had HRT dose doubled and totally realised that was the cause
I don’t have an answer but for that reason plus the tender boobs I’m thinking of reducing dose

RosetteNebula · 17/09/2022 11:06

I always find that I smell a bit down there in the morning (I shower before bed too). It isn't BV as I've had it before and know the smell. It's just my own smell but stronger. I think it's because I produce quite a lot of discharge and it dries and starts to smell and maybe mixes with sweat. Now I think about it I think it's possibly stronger before my period - a bit sour? I have another quick shower in the morning or if I'm running late usually just wipe with a baby wipe and I smell fine for the rest of the day until my shower,

Yerroblemom1923 · 17/09/2022 11:10

How are "other people" able to smell it? Who are they? And what have they said????

Neverendingmindfuck · 17/09/2022 11:10

I don't have your issue OP but I use Dermol 500 to wash with because of lichen sclerosis. You can buy it or get it prescribed.
Might you be over washing?
But I would go to the Dr's.
Definitely nothing perfumed down 👍

Violashift · 17/09/2022 11:19

My friend had her husband being able to smell turns out she had left a tampon stuck up there for a while. She was lucky no TSS

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 17/09/2022 11:52

Do you have an infection? Or STD?

Get yourself seen to. They've seen (and smelt) it all before.

Hope you can get some answers soon.

MamaFoxToBe · 17/09/2022 10:49

You're the first person I've ever heard refer to it as a Mary outside of my family 😲 we called it that too growing up and I thought my family were just crazy 🤣

Made me smile too! My family all used to say this, Nanna, aunties, etc - South Wales.

mountainsunsets · 17/09/2022 11:56

I think you need to see a doctor - that's not normal.

EL8888 · 17/09/2022 11:59

What do you smell of? Do you actually smell? I don’t want to come across as condescending but l started a new medication a while back. It seemed to make me smell, l was paranoid and embarrassed. Ended up asking my fiancé if l did and he said no?! I think the medication makes me hyper sensitive to smells

Felicity42 · 17/09/2022 12:00

Try a roll on antiperspirant along the crease between thigh and groin each side before bed. Mitchum unperfumed might be a good bet.
At least then you'll know if it's sweat or something coming from elsewhere.

Thealarmhasgoneoffagain · 17/09/2022 09:07

Oh and I keep myself trimmed. 😂

Pubic hair does not increase odour.
Why not sleep naked, it's healthier & may help the problem.

LeavesOnTrees · 17/09/2022 12:19

Are your sheets cotton or synthetic fabrics, same for your pyjamas ? Natural fibres are less sweaty.

Halli2020 · 17/09/2022 12:32

Get a swab done from your gp it could be all sorts of things. Only wash with water and use femfresh wipes

OldFan · 17/09/2022 12:33

I have the same issue. It's no big deal, just have a bath/shower before you have much to do with other people.

It just means I have a shower/bath in the morning rather than at night, when maybe most people do. Because I can't get away with that.

It always made more sense to me that people should shower in the morning rather than at night @Thealarmhasgoneoffagain . Because anyone is going to sweat a bit and get a bit more frowsty in the night than if they face the day after a morning wash.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 17/09/2022 12:34

@MamaFoxToBe
called a Mary in our house too
north west

for op , get checked by doc
and use a mild soap

are you just over conscious of it , has anyone else noticed ? Partner maybe ?

OldFan · 17/09/2022 12:35

It's not anything wrong, just how I happen to be and have been for my entire life after puberty, maybe more fragrant than most people in that area.

crazeecatladee · 17/09/2022 13:00

Look for an anti-fungal body wash on line. I had a situation where, even directly after a shower, my skin smelled 'acidy' Sometimes I would shower twice but skin always smelled. Turns out it was an all over fungal infection. The anti-fungal body wash cleared it up and body lotions now smell like they're supposed to. Dermol is good for cleaning vulval area.

It doesn’t increase it, but it 100% does hang on to it.

Xtraincome · 17/09/2022 13:25

Switch to Sanex 0% shower gel and choose a very bland washing detergent as well as ask GP opinion.

I went through a phase of this and it was horrid. Switched to sanex exclusively 2 years ago and feel so fresh I can go more than a day without showering if I feel. I don't often cos i am a hot shower freak lol 😜
