Wrong Carpet and Wardrobe Issue

So today we had a new carpet fitted room fully redecorated so nothing in there. He shouts me and says it’s done. I go upstairs and it’s completely the wrong colour! He rings shop and then I follow up with a call they are unable to fit us back in until Thursday! Our house is upside down upstairs with everything pulled out of that room so it was completely empty for them. So my issue is my new wardrobes are being delivered tomorrow for that room. We were planning to build them this weekend, as we are away/have plans the following two weekends. I discussed this with the shop and they said it would be fine but am I being a complete pain in the arse building them? It’s not my fault that they delivered the wrong carpet or do I live with flat pack for what is likely 3 weeks? I won’t fill them just build them

YANBU - they delivered the wrong product they can work around it

YABU - suck it up and live with flat pack everywhere for possibly the next 3weeks

Flat pack wardrobes aren't particularly sturdy went built and I personally wouldn't want to risk them being moved around by folks who have already demonstrated their carelessness. In any case, carpet fitters aren't removal men, and if only one turns up, he/she may well take one look and say 'I'm not shifting that!' I would wait.

Completely agree, probably won't be insured or similar.

I would wait until Thursday to start building the flatpack wardrobes, accepting that it will take longer to build them in what time you have spare in the evenings rather than all in one go at a weekend. They may not even take that long to build.

I disagree. IKEA ones floor to celing I forget their name but the ones with thicker pannels, we built ours last year and they are as solid as a rock but have to be fully fitted.

Sorry OP. call them, stay calm and beg them to work around you/comprimise but the BH on Monday wont help I guess
Good luck

How wrong is the carpet?
TBH I’d demand a big discount which they’ll be happy to give as they’re saving a days labour and the wasted carpet and crack on.

worriedniece · 17/09/2022 10:13

Could you get a discount and keep the carpet? Or in fact a full refund?

Etinoxaurus · 17/09/2022 11:38

Show us pics of what you’ve got and what you wanted. I bet Mumsnetters can reassure you and come up with some ideas of how to mitigate any differences. Then you can spend the day wardrobe building and have a take away as you’ll have got a whopping discount or refund 😬💃🏽

nachoavocado · 17/09/2022 11:41

Is the wrong carpet nice?

LionessesRules · 17/09/2022 13:18

Don't build them until the correct carpet is in.
Are you sure the current carpet, heavily discounted, wouldn't be suitable?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 17/09/2022 13:27

My dad had this and managed to try the company installing the carpet to build the (in his case) unit once they'd laid the carpet. It wasn't a difficult build but he was busy so didn't have time to do it and it was their mistake.

Welliesintherain · 17/09/2022 13:31

You’ve said they can fit you I’m Thursday that isn’t 3 weeks is it…

and it likely won’t take that long anyway a few evenings and it’ll be sorted

completely irritating but it is what it is

autumn1610 · 17/09/2022 14:23

@Welliesintherain no it’s not 3 weeks but it’s 3 weeks until I can build them. As away for the next two. Yes potentially can do them after work but it won’t be for at least a week due to being away from friday and then away from work at the beginning of the following week. It’s just the inconvenience of it, when you have what your doing planned out and everything is pulled out of the room and stacked on the landing/bedroom and office.

the carpet isn’t to my taste at all, looks like an office carpet, it should be a similar colour to the landing but in a different style of carpet. The wardrobes have arrived this morning and are stacked in the room so they can move the boxes around because I’m over it all already. We aren’t going to build them after talking to the company again today to check. The person I spoke to yesterday said it was fine, a different person today recommended not to, after particularly rude on the phone and I’m still waiting for them to ring back to actually confirm Thursday, they haven’t offered anything for the inconvenience apart from I don’t need to pay for fitting again…no shit

God that's ugly carpet. Like the ones I keep seeing in cheaply developed houses.

autumn1610 · 17/09/2022 14:28

That’s exactly what I said!

Yeah, need to wait for the right carpet to turn up!!!

TokenGinger · 17/09/2022 14:34

We had new carpets put in for the full house last year. All of our bedroom furniture is flat pack wardrobes/drawers from IKEA. They just worked around it. It was fine. If you only have time to build this weekend, I'd get them built and they can just move them around.
