Cabbage

Planned to cook a nice cheapish dish with cabbage today, put a 1,2kg cabbage in my basket and it was going to cost me £6. I’m not in the UK, and I basicallly live next to the fields where cabbage is grown. The cabbage didn’t even look fresh. It just isn’t a reasonable price, is it? Just crazy. I never thought I’d put a cabbage back..

What country are you in?

LucilleDarlingtonUnexpectedly · 16/09/2022 21:48

Can you pick me a cabbage next time you’re going past please.

ReeseWitherfork · 16/09/2022 21:49

That’s some pricey fucking cabbage. And the weirdest “cost of living!!!” thread I’ve seen to date.

Are you in Australia, OP?

SavoirFlair · 16/09/2022 21:52

This is a nice story.

You do know we have a “Chat” board, @onewhitepaw , if you fancy a natter about vegetable prices?

what is the “AIBU” part of your post?

Anon778833 · 16/09/2022 21:55

No I’m not, I’m as far away from Australia as you can get.

Is that overpriced in comparison to other veg in the country you're in or is it generally a very expensive country?

onewhitepaw · 16/09/2022 22:50

The reality where I live atm, glad you think it’s just a nice story.

I buy frozen veg, much less waste, I like frozen chopped cabbage and its cheap and I just chuck it in

Pixiedust1234 · 16/09/2022 22:53

Its weird seeing the pound sign but you aren't in the UK. Whats the conversion rate?

onewhitepaw · 16/09/2022 22:55

Everything has just sky rocketed, was expensive before but this is just a whole new level. Carrots are cheap, but tomatoes and cabbage are just too expensive to buy.

Sounds great, but frozen cabbage does not exist here.

That's a crazy price . Do they not grow cabbages in Scandinavia?

Luredbyapomegranate · 16/09/2022 23:03

Bloody hell.. is everything skyrocketing where you are?!

OP did say they live next to the field where the cabbages are grown.

Which country? I went to Norway a few years ago and it was about £4 for a can of soft drink

Oh give over.

If MN wanted Thread Police they'd ask for them.

UnashamedLabelHo · 16/09/2022 23:08

They’re about 60p here - I suddenly feel like we’re winning!

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 16/09/2022 23:10

@onewhitepaw

have you tried buying them direct? Helping yourself?

£6 for a cabbage, not a bloody chance!!

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 16/09/2022 23:11

Do a Peter Rabbit and go under cover of darkness to said next door field. They won't miss one!

Although at that price they are probably grown with security tags.
