Is the real thing or a replica?

Obviously if someone attempted an elaborate heist to steal it they'd have all the guard and police on them in a split second, im just really curious!

On one of my sewing groups, a member disclosed that she had been asked, many years ago, to make the cushion for the Scottish crown to be placed upon, for the Queen's coffin in the event of her dying in Scotland. She was provided with a mould that would hold the crown securely in place and the cushion had secure fixings to the coffin. Sadly, her cushion was not used. She had kept this secret for around thirty years.

JaneJeffer · 16/09/2022 17:59

How come they didn't use it @unsync? She must have been upset.

ElizabethBest · 16/09/2022 18:04

@7Worfs god yes. Put me right off my sandwich on my lunch break!!

Catsandcatsallover · 16/09/2022 18:18

I read somewhere that the coffin has fake double lid on so the crown can be safely attached to the fake lid.

MumBoot2022 · 16/09/2022 18:20

Some sellotape?

Worried234 · 16/09/2022 18:20

Me too.

When did they add the orb and sceptre?

In that half hour after the service when the hall was closed, before the public were allowed in.

Surely it would be held on with blue tack

Double sided sellotape would be my choice, with a few of those cable ties to defeat the drones/ eagles from snatching it . (See above) You can get clear plastic cable ties which are pretty invisible.

Why would the Queen be in a plain shroud?! Normal humans are buried in one of their nice outfits. I’m sure she is the same. One of her lovely dresses I’m sure. And of course she’s in there. The security is massive - you’d be shot dead before you had chance to get a finger on that crown. They had snipers on the roofs of all the buildings during the procession and they will again for the funeral. The Queen is ironically much safer from attack in death than she was in life.

My thinking re a plain linen shroud was that during the coronation she wore one over the bejewelled dress for the anointing.

That would have been a sacred moment for her, so I can imagine she may choose her earthly remains to be clad in something simple.

Janesdufflecoat · 16/09/2022 18:56

She has some of her jewellery on, I saw an article about it - I'll try & find it!

HideTheCroissants · 16/09/2022 19:20

Good to know neither if my parents weren’t “normal humans”!

Both went into their coffins wrapped in linen as per their wishes.

Damn the ruddy iPhone and no edit on MN ….

Good to know neither OF my parents WERE “normal humans”.

SparkyBlue · 16/09/2022 19:49

I think a plain shroud as well. She was very religious and I think it sounds like something she would choose

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/09/2022 20:07

I do not think HMQ is wearing a evening dress. I think more likely something comfy and was her off duty clothes. Although the probability is a shroud. I think she will be holding a cross.

TheKingsInk · 16/09/2022 20:24

It’s beautiful and sparkly but probably has some bad gremlins concerning the jewels

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/09/2022 20:58

It's a great shame that the country's second national treasure (Paul Daniels) has gone to the Great Bonco Booth in the sky.

It would have been a great finale to end of the viewing of the Queen's coffin if he could have whipped the Royal Standard away leaving the crown and cushion still place.

I would have liked that,
Not a lot,
But I would have liked it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/09/2022 20:59

It’s on the coffin, isn’t it, not in it?

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 16/09/2022 21:42

I’m slightly nervous that it’s not insured!

Why would you need insurance when you have far more money than all the insurance companies in the first place? The idea of insurance is to protect something that you'd have no hope of replacing if it were lost/stolen/damaged. In the same way that we ordinary folk wouldn't bother to insure a loaf of bread or a kitchen spatula, as we'd just pay to replace it, the royals would just (as far as possible) easily afford to replace any of their crowns or jewels if something unfortunate befell them.

I am liking the idea of somebody turning up on Dickinson's Read Deal with that crown, though - the dealer has bought 4 billion pounds on the table, so you can't see anything at all apart from a massive studio full of money; and in the background, you can hear a muffled "Maybe just another £20 to sweeten the deal?!" Grin

Muezza · 16/09/2022 16:56

Passing eagle 😂

Me and a friend of mine used to make up elaborate plans for heists after seeing that Damien Hirst bejewelled skull at the tate modern. Our plan for that involved a team of trained rats

Surely this would require a trained team of magpies, lured by the promise of shiny things!

QuebecBagnet · 17/09/2022 07:03

Someone ran towards the coffin earlier and grabbed the royal standard, not sure if he was after the crown. Arrested by the police but oddly from the blurry photo I saw the soldiers didn’t move.

ManagementPlan · 17/09/2022 08:02

My DH was buried in the new PJs he died in. He looked so peaceful

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/09/2022 08:10

The whole thing has been designed to hold the pieces from the crown jewels in place. Nothing has been left to chance or is going to fall off. I imagine someone does have a bunch of cable ties handy as a back up plan though 😁

Forget is the crown real, I’m wondering if she’s actually in the box? I doubt it

“What’s in the box, John?”

Stolen wealth

It's real all right. Couldn't take my eyes off it!
