To wonder why Princess Anne wears military uniform - when she has never served

Bankcockbabe · 16/09/2022 10:13

I love the Royals, and feel very sorry for their current awful situation, so is not intended as a bash against Princess Anne or any of them

but - I do not understand why Princess Anne wears Military Uniform in the procession, never having served in the military - and Prince Harry was not able to , even though he has done two tours

I get Princess Anne has honorary titles, but 'honorary' titles but claiming this, IMO, doesn't really do justice to the men & women who have actually served - It feels like it is making a mockery if someone who has not done the same, can put the Uniform on

Prince Harry also fell out with senior army colleagues when he made and incredibly racist comment in a public broadcast. Perhaps some posters have forgotten?

@NiqueNique was not bullying in any way. It is your responsibility OP if you want to be more educated on a particular subject, no one else's. And yes you'll come back with a retort trying to bounce it back, but you're making yourself look like you have a bit of an attitude problem tbh

I agree. If I were her and had the option to wear it/looked as good as she does in it, I'd totally take it.

I think it’s good she stands out as this, female, older, looking great

whynotwhatknot · 16/09/2022 11:43

harrys allowed now probably threatened another oprah or something

marcopront · 16/09/2022 11:46

@Bankcockbabe

Did you even ask why I feel sympathy, or merely assume - based on your own thoughts?

Why do you feel sympathy for him?

Teddletoddle · 16/09/2022 11:50

From the news story from the Guardian and it was widely reported at the time. This caused great offence to many people.

'In the film, the 24-year-old prince calls an officer from the Pakistani army, who was on the course with him, "our little friend", and when he sees another officer cadet wearing a camouflage veil, exclaims: "Fuck me, you look like a ."

He also mocks the Queen – the commander-in-chief of the British army – during a pretend mobile phone call. "I've got to go, got to go," he says, while being filmed pretending to finish a call to her. "Send my love to the corgis. Send my love to the corgis and Grandpa. God save you ... yeah, that's great."

You can see why Prince Harry was not always a good advert for the army

I'd get rid of the entire royal apparatus but I don't see how you can call Harry racist 😂

I think its ridiculous that Princess Anne wears a military uniform. Camilla also holds honorary ranks but she doesnt wear a uniform. Its bonkers.

Absolutely everything about the royal family is bonkers. The ranks, titles, protocol, money, uniforms for imaginary military service, everything from the pomp to the patents. I find myself reading even sensible coverage of the funeral wondering if I’m in a fever dream: “The coffin will be draped with the royal standard and topped with an orb and sceptre, which will be returned to the Crown Jewels by the High Quartermaster of the Jewellery Box as a trumpeter plays a lament witnessed by the Marquis of Thingy, dressed in honorary military garb for riding a horse once.” Purest nonsense.

m00rfarm · 16/09/2022 10:39

You are being unreasonable in asking why. You know the answer already. You’re actually just saying you don’t think she should wear it. And I don’t agree with you on that point.

Exactly, knew this would turn out to be another ‘poor Harry’ post

lickenchugget · 16/09/2022 12:00

Harry went to the lion king premiere to sell his wife
to the director, instead of fulfilling an existing forces function

Teddletoddle · 16/09/2022 12:01

@Novella4
How can you call the comments he made not racist? Or does racism not count if it is directed at Muslims?
Mohammed Shafiq, director of Muslim youth organisation the Ramadan Foundation, said the comments would be offensive to many Asians.
"The use of this sort of racism has no justification and I am saddened by those that are advocating using this term is not racist," he said.
"Prince Harry, as a public figure, must ensure that he promotes equality and tolerance and this rant, whether today or three years ago, is sickening and he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself."

Bankcockbabe · 16/09/2022 12:03

I wouldn't bite tbh - I think there are lot of baity people on this thread - who seem to either want to troll, respond to stuff that hasn't been said, or get downright nasty
It is only meant to be a discussion - not hysterics at dawn

Lifeomars · 16/09/2022 12:03

I find the whole thing ridiculous, it gets madder by the day. Of course I am sorrry for the family (and indeed any family) who have lost a loved one but it is all getting a bit much.

LucyfurMorningstar · 16/09/2022 12:04

What uniform will Harry wear? I assume his old honorary positions have passed onto somebody else along with the their fancy uniforms/sashes/swords/hats etc so does that just leave him his green helicoptor pilot garb or whatever?

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 12:07

I agree of course but if it was just nonsense I'd leave them to it .
It's the financial drain, the power to pick which laws to exclude themselves from and the constant PR / propaganda in the media .

No need to even take their make believe titles. They can still call themselves king - maybe set up a subscription service like Netflix for the people who believe in royalty Wink

Cuck00soup · 16/09/2022 12:09

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 10:41

The Monarch is the head of the armed forces.

Working Royals are given honorary roles in the armed forces to signify the link between the Royal household and the army. They wear ceremonial uniform as part of that role.

Harry did not reach the rank where it is permitted to wear uniform once service has ended. His ceremonial uniform was linked to his honorary title/role. He didn’t want to be a working Royal, so his honorary role was removed and with it, the uniform.

Thank you! This explanation makes sense to me.

stuntbubbles · 16/09/2022 12:11

@Novella4 Oh, I totally agree! And obviously all the nonsense is done to create the mystique that justifies the special laws and all the money. I’ve just found myself this week being especially Hmm at it all.

Would 100% watch Keeping Up With the Windsors if that’s what they were reduced to, though.

EmeraldShamrock1 · 16/09/2022 12:12

*Why? It was his choice to stop being a working royal. With Andrew it wasn't his decision, but Harry is where he is of his own free will.(
It wasn't exactly a choice more of a push considering that he was being wildly bullied by the media and his wife was falling apart under the pressure of death by media.
Anyway I'm glad Harry will be wearing his uniform today.

Teddletoddle · 16/09/2022 12:14

You haven't answered me @Novella4 . Were you being ironic when you wrote that the comments Prince Harry made are not racist?

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 12:17

No I was not being ironic ( ?)

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 12:18

@Teddletoddle

Let me get this clear - you are saying Harry is racist ?

Bankcockbabe · 16/09/2022 12:20

OH god just stop this drivel about racism. The comment was racist. There is no two ways around it - make another thread if you want to bang on about it
