To wonder why Princess Anne wears military uniform - when she has never served

Bankcockbabe · 16/09/2022 10:13

I love the Royals, and feel very sorry for their current awful situation, so is not intended as a bash against Princess Anne or any of them

but - I do not understand why Princess Anne wears Military Uniform in the procession, never having served in the military - and Prince Harry was not able to , even though he has done two tours

I get Princess Anne has honorary titles, but 'honorary' titles but claiming this, IMO, doesn't really do justice to the men & women who have actually served - It feels like it is making a mockery if someone who has not done the same, can put the Uniform on

Maybe you can enlighten me

William the Conquerer became King William I when he (and his army) conquered England.

The Queen is his great great ……… lots more ….. great grand daughter. Had William the Conquerer decided that he didn’t fancy conquering and instead wanted to hang out in France then she wouldn’t have been Queen.

WimpoleHat · 16/09/2022 10:54

What I am actually saying is I do not think anyone who has not served in the Military should be wearing it

In my experience, people in the military are really proud of their Royal connections and would disagree with you.

Mamamia7962 · 16/09/2022 10:55

It has now been announced that Harry will be allowed to wear his military uniform at the final vigil.

It doesn't matter what you think. The military obviously think otherwise.

Rubbish. The military get no say in the matter.

It's a ridiculous argument that because something has been done in the past it should continue to be done. If that were true, children would still work in coal mines and up chimneys.

The answer is that privilege sets its own rules.

Tomorrowisalatterday · 16/09/2022 10:55

Let's be honest, it's because she looks amazing in it.

NiqueNique · 16/09/2022 10:56

It’s not a swerve. Why should I do the work of educating you? You can do that yourself! Don’t you look things up or research them if you’re interested and/or wonder about them? I do...that’s how I know the things I know.

I find historical Royalty facinating

The difference being (with honorary titles) - that the historical figures fought front line and led armies

Yes, the military have been faultless this week. You can see how proud they are

Inkanta · 16/09/2022 10:58

Not really understanding why you would want to wear a uniform if you have no military experience. Yes Anne did look very smart though in uniform on Wednesday and I was glad to see her walking with the men.

They really have been amazing

What a huge undertaking this has all been for all of them - they deserve huge recognition for this

I asked friends in the military about this and they like that she wears the uniform.

I thought she looked great, she’s a strong woman.

Teddletoddle · 16/09/2022 10:59

Princess Anne is reputedly the hardest working Royal. She narrowly escaped an armed attack on her life with a group of terrorists attempting to kidnap her. When the armed kidnapper tried to pull her out of the car, she shouted, 'Not bloody likely'.
If anyone deserves her role in the army it is Anne. She would hate anyone to feel sorry for her. Perhaps Prince Harry likes people feeling sorry for him.

This is my exact issue...but nevertheless I was delighted she was walking with the men - she is their equal

You are being unreasonable in asking why. You know the answer already. You’re actually just saying you don’t think she should wear it. And I don’t agree with you on that point.

Agree, lots if similar posts today and all have a poor Harry underlying theme!

Bankcockbabe · 16/09/2022 11:00

Teddletoddle - ahh yes I remember the attempted kidnapping. Brave lady

Princess Anne does look really great in her uniform. It suits her.

Whether she should or not I don’t know but agree with this

She looks the best out of the siblings

SleeplessInEngland · 16/09/2022 11:01

Because the royal family is silly.

Lots of things, the same as you know lots about the things you’ve learned about. It’s not a difficult concept, is it?

Anne wears her uniform because of the historic, and continuing, links between the Monarch and the armed forces.

You're perfectly entitled to think that she shouldn’t be allowed to. I don’t know why you didn’t just say that in your OP instead of couching it as a question about why she wears it...

WimpoleHat · 16/09/2022 11:02

Don’t they just? Losing a family member is awful at the best of times; to do so in the full glare of publicity and having to “share” that grief with the public must be such an ordeal. They’ve never stopped, really.

SleeplessInEngland · 16/09/2022 11:02

Perhaps Prince Harry likes people feeling sorry for him.

He did two tours of Afghanistan. At least keep your boot licking consistent.

I think all you have learned is that, everyone should think like you - and if they do not - attempt to patronise or bully them

It is not a good look.

it's quite simple really:

If you want to carry on wearing the uniform don't resign when of junior officer rank, because then you don't get to carry on wearing the uniform..(Harry and indeed most mere mortals)

If you do hold honorarysenior Officer rank make sure your antics don't hack of "your" regiment/ branch of the service so much so that they don't want to be associated with you, and don't hack them off so much that they might, as has been rumoured, complain to the big Boss (I'm thinking of another Prince)

Unlike some Princess Anne is still highly regarded as a patron/honorary boss by many in the military.
