Winter plant?!

Shamelessly posting for traffic because I'm heading to Homebase in 30 mins...

I want a plant outside my front door. I want it to be fairly tall, in a pot and last all year.

I don't think that's asking too much but I've spent the best part of today on garden centre websites and am none the wiser.

Does anyone have the answer to my problem please?! What should I buy?

Clueless!!

Cordyline. Spiky
Buxus- ball shaped usually

Standard bay tree.

Standard holly, bay trees, olive trees if not full shade, viburnham. I would go and look in a proper garden centre rather than homebase though. Hydrangeas also look good but arent evergreen.

Winter plant?!

Would an evergreen like pyracantha (firethorn) fit the bill? It can grow tall and has creamy blossoms in the spring and red, orange or cream berries in the winter, but it comes with a warning - the thorns are very prickly indeed, so you must wear very good gloves for pruning.

Thank you all!! Ok, pulled up at Homebase but have just googled garden centres and there's a few not far away.

On a mission Grin
