Just that. It was gut wrenching to watch and it's been in my mind since Sad

OP posts:
Skinnermarink · 15/09/2022 11:04

I’m sure he’s fine now he’s had a sit down and a cup of tea- he won’t be dead.

ChagSameachDoreen · 15/09/2022 11:05

I'm sure he's fine. They hopefully take good care of them.

I mean, in an ideal world there would be no such pomp and ceremony, but I like to think that the guards and other staff are looked after. But who knows.

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2022 11:06

Hopefully he's ok. Bit sad for him that it's now a news item complete with a clip of it happening though.

Buttons294749 · 15/09/2022 11:06

If you stand still for a long length of time it happens, the guards rock subtly back and forth on their feet. Maybe his blood pressure was a bit low,

abovedecknotbelow · 15/09/2022 11:07

Gut wrenching? I hope he's ok but it's very common.

44PumpLane · 15/09/2022 11:07

He'll be absolutely fine. It happens all the time starting at their passing out parades (no pun intended).....someone usually faints.

They are all trussed up and standing still for ages. As soon as they have a sit and stick their legs up they are fine.

AuntieMarys · 15/09/2022 11:08

The royals will pay for new teeth

JustDanceAddict · 15/09/2022 11:09

I’m not surprised that happened- I was almost expecting it at the pronouncement as it looked v hot and stuffy in that room.
im sure he’s fine after a sit down and a drink.

TheUsualChaos · 15/09/2022 11:12

Poor chap.

The continuous live feed of the lying in state is a bit bizarre.

Poor chap.

The continuous live feed of the lying in state is a bit bizarre.

It's weird and yet strangely compelling. There's a chat about it on another thread but the thing that shocked me the most was that a)it's being livestreamed at all and b) the close ups of people doing their nod/bow/salute/curtsey/ whatever.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/09/2022 11:16

Probably extremely embarrassed and dreading being reminded of it in banter for the rest of his career.

Meanwhile everyone else silently thinking they were glad it wasn't them.

Falling off horses, fainting, tripping over etc happens all the time in parades. They have drills for it. (And medics standing by!)

KingCharlespen · 15/09/2022 11:17

I've a young niece who carried out ceremonial duties at the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral and it was all very stressful whilst wearing a huge uniform. The relentless practicing in the lead up also exhausts them. Hopefully he's ok.

Sparklingbrook · 15/09/2022 11:18

i would imagine it's got him out of any more guard duty for this. he may or may not be pleased about that.

OfficiallyBroken · 15/09/2022 11:18

His pride will be hurting more than anything else.

Thereisnoname · 15/09/2022 11:20

Baby Sensory was the best class I went to, leader was amazing and so fabulous babies loved her. But when I went back with 2nd baby it was a different leader and no where near as good.
I started when my baby was 6 weeks old but she was v. young and more for me at the time but went for a whole year. I'd give it another go but if baby is overwhelmed again than maybe have a break and try again when his a bit older.

Coldilox · 15/09/2022 11:22

It’s not uncommon to faint due to standing for a long time in a stress position. Soldiers mostly have techniques to prevent it, but they are not foolproof.

He will be fine, just mortified that he did it.

Brefugee · 15/09/2022 11:22

Having been a fainter on parade: they will check that he had breakfast (CO's parade and therefore compulsory) and that he is ok, then he'll be back on duty.

If they find any proof he didn't have breakfast, they might possibly charge him (happened to a fainter i know - she had other issues and was medically discharged in the end). But mostly he'll be checked out and allowed back on duty if he's ok, or given light duties if not.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 15/09/2022 11:28

I was watching when it happened. He face planted the tiles, it looked awful

Why? Do you lack in compassion and empathy?

MilliwaysUniverse · 15/09/2022 11:30

It happens a lot. At DS's army cadet passing out parade, two of the cadets fainted while waiting to be presented with their pips. They were taken to one side and rehydrate, then back on parade within 15 minutes.

LakieLady · 15/09/2022 11:31

I hope he's ok, but I felt so sorry for him. It was possibly one of the most solemn duties he's ever likely to perform. He'll be mortified.

I hope he doesn't get the piss taken out of him.

pinok · 15/09/2022 11:35

Apparently they only change every 6 hours 😳can’t imagine being stood there for that long

sumosaussage · 15/09/2022 11:39

@sparepantsandtoothbrush

Why does the OP want an update on the health and well-being of a total stranger

Very weird and unreasonable

Are they different to the every 20 minute changing guards?
