To be furious with Royal Mail?

I’m half devastated half livid.

Special event tonight I needed to order an item for. Purchased item for next day delivery 2 days ago but when I received the confirmation email it said item for pre order release in 30 days, it had sold out as I checked out.

Contacted company to change my order to another item that would work on their website. Credit to them they did. Sent yesterday for morning delivery.

Just woke up to a text from RM that’s basically ‘our bad, we sent it to leeds’. LEEDS. I’m in Merseyside. So I basically will not get to go will I? Text says it’s been rerouted but it won’t arrive today surely?

RM need to be careful, other delivery companies are doing the job better.

DDivaStar · 15/09/2022 07:23

Frustrating, but you did cut it fine.

SavoirFlair · 15/09/2022 07:24

Did you just learn about this special event two days ago?

If so YANBU and hope your event runs without it.

But if you did know about the event more than two days ago… YABVU.

I may sound annoying but when it comes to online delivery through Royal Mail or anh mainstream delivery, i don’t treat it like a work courtier, EVER. That means I try and work a degree of contingency into anything important being delivered, just because people throw parcels over fences, leave them in bins, deliver to another house entirely who then bizarrely accept the delivery and then run off with the item..

Secndguess · 15/09/2022 07:25

l had to wait for pay day.

Flatmountains · 15/09/2022 07:28

Was it really not possible to, say, go to a shop?

Secndguess · 15/09/2022 07:30

Believe me if I could have I would. This retailer only sells online.

I get it’s frustrating but you did cut it very fine.

itsmellslikepopcarn · 15/09/2022 07:34

It’s frustrating but it’s never a guarantee, they aim to get it to you next day and they’re human so errors are going to occur. I would only ever trust Amazon to always deliver next day.

Pinkdelight3 · 15/09/2022 07:38

It's massively aggravating of them, but you did leave it too late for something important. Amazon is the only next day day delivery I'd trust, and even then I'd build in some buffer.

baroqueandblue · 15/09/2022 07:41

Trust amazon for next day delivery - until they not only fail to deliver next day, but expect you to wait 72 hours before asking them to sort it out! That has happened to me 3 times so far, and all on prime orders fulfilled by amazon themselves.

nachoavocado · 15/09/2022 07:41

How long have you known about the special event?

I think you need to allow contingency time when getting anything delivered tbh.

nachoavocado · 15/09/2022 07:43

I think we have all become so used to fast quick delivery now that sometimes it is easy to forget the logistics involved in getting the parcel to you.

Secndguess · 15/09/2022 07:44

I would be less frustrated if they didn’t manage to deliver but was in my city at least. But I cannot even drive to depot/sorting office as it’s in Leeds.

May give it a few hours and hope they noticed the error early enough to still receive today. It’s special delivery guaranteed by 1pm.

Secndguess · 15/09/2022 07:49

Talking of late delivery, 2 weeks late, my bastard period just arrived.
I have to laugh or I’ll cry. 😂

girlmom21 · 15/09/2022 07:50

You're not getting it today if it's gone to Leeds. You wouldn't be able to collect it anyway. It's not how it works.

It's not really only Royal Mails fault as you ordered an item that was on pre-order so lost a day there. If you'd have ordered the right item there'd have been a day for Royal Mail to fix their error.

Ariela · 15/09/2022 07:50

You may be lucky in that a small truck load destined for Merseyside went to Leeds - they may have brought it all over, and it'll still get delivery.
Otherwise probably not, it'll come tomorrow.
It's a case of refunding your item vs cost - if they have to refund a truck load then they will be more inclined to shift them so they don't loose money.

LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 15/09/2022 07:53

I ordered loads on Amazon on Sunday afternoon, around 4pm. All here by lunchtime Monday. RM are not fit for purpose.

GreenWheat · 15/09/2022 07:53

Mistakes happen. "Furious" is a bit OTT though. Frustrated maybe, but it's just one of those things.

Apart from your Amazon order will have been picked and distributed from one location relatively locally and rather than sent by an external distributor for through a nationwide parcel network?

SpinCityBlues · 15/09/2022 07:58

My latest ‘next day delivery’ took four bloody days! Royal Mail are crap and yes it’s fine to be pissed off, I hope it arrives, and good luck.

What? The service literally says in its title “guaranteed 1pm next day delivery” it’s not like she just ordered first class and is annoyed it didn’t come in 2 days.

mountainsunsets · 15/09/2022 08:01

It sucks but you really did cut it very fine.

Even Amazon don't always deliver next day now - I ordered some cat food last week (need a certain type as my cat has a medical condition) it was delayed by three days even though it was on repeat subscription.

I've now changed it so it's due to arrive 10 days or so before the previous lot runs out.

Even Amazon don't always do it anymore.

Sunnyqueen · 15/09/2022 08:03

Yanbu. They shouldn't be calling the service 'guaranteed' if it isnt. Its a business transaction, they offer a service for x amount, you pay x amount that's your side of the bargain, if they then fail to deliver a service they have guaranteed then they have failed to keep their side of the bargain, which isn't really good enough. You shouldn't have to order days in advance to still pay extra for next delivery to ensure it comes in time. That's just shit service.

mountainsunsets · 15/09/2022 08:06

Yes, but that just means they'll refund you if it doesn't arrive on time. It doesn't mean that, come hell or high water, your parcel is guaranteed to be there by 1pm.
