To be furious with Royal Mail?

I’m half devastated half livid.

Special event tonight I needed to order an item for. Purchased item for next day delivery 2 days ago but when I received the confirmation email it said item for pre order release in 30 days, it had sold out as I checked out.

Contacted company to change my order to another item that would work on their website. Credit to them they did. Sent yesterday for morning delivery.

Just woke up to a text from RM that’s basically ‘our bad, we sent it to leeds’. LEEDS. I’m in Merseyside. So I basically will not get to go will I? Text says it’s been rerouted but it won’t arrive today surely?

@OP
Are you sure the text is definitely from Royal Mail? please beware, there are lots of fraudulent people posing as RM and sending text messages to customers that have recently used RM services.

Can you see the phone number the text is from? if you can it's more likely a hoax plus RM hardly ever send text messages to customers.

I get loads! All genuine. They tell me they've received my parcel and are going to deliver it and then I can reschedule. And then once its delivered I get another one.

Yeah that happened to me it ended up 10 miles away and got re-routed. Got it a day late.

While there are some scams out there it is utter rubbish that Royal Mail hardly ever text customers.
It is standard for many companies now to have Royal Mail texts sent out when your delivery is at various stages. You can usually go on and update delivery details etc
I have dozens of texts from Royal Mail.alll completely genuine

IamnotSethRogan · 15/09/2022 13:23

I generally find RM much more reliable than amazon. I think it's because of where I live but if I order next day with royal Mail, I know I'm getting it in the morning. I pay for amazon prime but our next day delivery is usually 7pm at night

MyOwnPrivateGardenHoe · 15/09/2022 13:42

this is exactly what strike action is for. Make people realise what the usual service is like compared to when it’s taken away

Can't say as I've noticed any difference here. I'm on a small cul de sac, and at the head of it. I work by the window so can say with absolute certainty RM come up here twice a week if we're lucky.

Postman has actually been today. I now need to go and deliver the post he pushed through my door thats actually for two other houses in the street.

Thats my level of 'usual service'.

Your post minus the first 2 lines would have sufficiently got your point across. It is possible to use your manners as well as make a point.

I think the point is that anything could go wrong and prevent stuff from arriving next day, though.

Human error
Staff sickness
Bad accident on the motorway
Vehicle breakdown
Bad weather
Etc.

All the guarantee means is that you'll get a refund and/or compensation if the item doesn't arrive - it doesn't mean you're 100% guaranteed to get your item the next day.

I don’t really get what you’re saying here. Their service is guaranteed delivery by 1pm the next day. The guarantee is why they give you a refund if it doesn’t , whereas if first class takes 3 days they don’t . Yeah sometimes shit happens and you get a refund but are you saying she shouldn’t be annoyed?

i used Royal Mail special delivery to post my passport once, if they’d lost it do you think I’d be unreasonable to be annoyed ? How incompetent does a company have to be before we are allowed to be annoyed?

I was just coming back to this thread to say similar. Every time we're due an Amazon delivery our delivery window gets delayed at least 3 times

ThrowingSomeCrumbs · 15/09/2022 14:36

I ordered something next day delivery with Evri. 2 1/2 weeks ago. They won't agree they've lost it (vintage, very hard to find a replacement) until it's 28 days.

I know. I've helped people fill in really complex forms for the DWP that have to be back and scanned in to the DWP's system bang on time.

If the Royal Mail tracked and guaranteed delivery system fails them, then they're fucked.

The DWP operates in a different space-time continuum than the rest of us. To them, for example, 28 days means nothing of the kind. The covering letter for the form is printed on Day 1. It might arrive on Day 11. It has to be back by Day 28, with all relevant documentation, which is often a Sunday or Monday so you think, 'better make it the Friday to be on the safe side', which is Day 25. So you now have 14 days in which to do 28 days' work. The thought of getting all that effort in the post and it not arriving 'on time' (and thus rejected) because the Royal Mail is also in a parallel universe is horrendous.

Similar happened to me.
Was going on holiday on the Saturday.
Saw some shoes I liked online on Tuesday. Paid extra for 'next day delivery'
Did not arrive.
Had an email that it had been sent it error to another depot.
On Saturday I had to leave early. Dh stayed behind to wait for my parcel. They arrived around 2pm on Saturday. The company I ordered through refunded my p&p but it wasn't their fault, royal mail were the ones that cocked up.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 15/09/2022 16:32

Round here, our regular postie went off sick after an operation, so our service dropped to every other day only as the round was being shared, and despite the postie being back, we still only get post every other day at best - seems like ant excise to cut costs at the omens, despite the extortionate amount they charged me to send a phone fully insured next day, which they promptly failed to track and lost. DPD are the best where I am, and even Evri are decent these days.

But that's how it should be.

Your contract is with the company you ordered from, so they have to refund you and then take it up with Royal Mail themselves.

Royal Mail can't give you a refund unless you're the sender.
