How bad is this?

Had my hair done a couple of days ago (not the first time, but same hairdresser). The first time I thought maybe was just an off day but I'm not happy this time either.
Is this the way highlights usually look, or is this really pretty bad?

That second photos bad. Sorry.

MynameisJune · 14/09/2022 14:34

That’s horrific, they should not look like that at all when freshly done.

Thatsplentyjack · 14/09/2022 14:34

Just to add, the bottom of my hair looks fine, and I wear it up most of the time so it doesn't matter that much, but if this is the way highlights usually look I think I'll have to stop getting it done.

Not good I'm afraid

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 14/09/2022 14:34

Way too far from the roots. Did she use a cap?

Thatsplentyjack · 14/09/2022 14:35

Don't be sorry, just confirmed what I thought. Time to change hairdresser . So hard because I know the person and will bump into them every now and then...oh well.

No, was full head of foils. Last time I just had t bar done and it looked much better but I've had a full head done 3 times now and it looks like this everytime!

She has no skills in this area unfortunately. It looks like you have had regrowth and awaiting new highlights, not just had them done, ek.

Izzycat28 · 14/09/2022 14:39

I’m a hairdresser and think that you should have not left the salon with the front uneven.
However I would definitely contact the salon and see what they can do to help, I’m sure the owner/manager would want to rectify it. Even a root smudge and toner would improve it drastically, good luck!

Yup, I'm annoyed at myself for keeping going back. This is why I dyed my hair myself for so long 🤣 can't bleach it myself though!

Christ, don't tell them that when you go back to complain!! And complain you should

BoopBoopBoDiddley · 14/09/2022 14:42

What did you pay?

I asked for a root smudge last time but she didn't want to do it because the toner doesn't last long. Think I'll just go elsewhere. It was the owner that did it.

Oh nooo, please tell hairdresser not happy and looks a bit stripey/blocky, she should rectify for you! That's your hard earned money there so have a right to be happy with service! Hope you get it sorted x

Thatsplentyjack · 14/09/2022 14:45

This was the initial style I wanted but she's never been able to achieve this so I ended up with highlights everytime.

What did you pay?

£70. I know that's hardly anything compared to some places but it's a small town and that's average for our area.

Izzycat28 · 14/09/2022 14:46

Hmm how strange.
I can understand why you would want to go elsewhere, look into a good reputable salon where you might need to pay a little extra but will be worth it!

Time to find a new hairdresser with a wider skill set?

Donotgogentle · 14/09/2022 14:53

I’d say:-

—highlights start too far from scalp, and
-they’re too wide/blocky, unless you asked for that effect I’d expect them to be much finer and more subtle.

I agree, I’d try someone else.

No definitely didn't ask for it to be like that. Didn't even really want highlights 🤣

Yikes. Of all the places to miss out on your hair - your roots is the worse!
It looks like you've had a month or so of growth.

But that's the exact look in the insiration pic, very dark roots showing. However, she has done a really bad job.

abovedecknotbelow · 14/09/2022 16:02

Yep it's bad. IME though even with a £££ experienced hairdresser it's hard for them to get blonde looking good on dark hair unless you bayalage

LaughingCat · 14/09/2022 16:02

Good god, this is what my hair looks like now after three months and I was just considering whether to go back next week or the week after to have it done again 😂. YADNBU

The pic I posted from google isn't the look she's supposed to be doing ,nymore. That's the pic I showed around 6 months ago when I went in for a complete change of hair colour (was auburn before). What she did the very first time was a disaster, and I did go back and she put some highlights through it to fix it. That's how it eventually just became getting highlights everytime. So it's not supposed to be dark roots anymore.
