Shift workers…is Monday being forced on you as a day off?

My rota has been adjusted this morning so that I have Monday off…but I’ve lost my Saturday off.

We are closing for the funeral but being made to take it as one of our two days off in the week.

I’m furious. I have plans on Saturday. I’m not doing it (I’m working my notice anyway so don’t give a fuck) but has anyone else had this? It seems really shady.

I think it was left at employers' discretion. It probably depends what's in your contract. Do you usually have BH as one of your days off?

I’ve never done shift work so don’t know whether this is unfair or not tbh. It does sound as though you’re missing out on your supposed extra day. Are they adding it to your leave allowance?

We’re usually open bank holidays so it’s just reflected in our holiday allowance.

No idea.

My employers haven't actually decided who is doing what on Monday yet. We will need to provide some level of service so some of us will be working. Worst case scenario they will decide on Saturday that Dh and I are both required (Monday is my rostered day but he has extra skills) and with schools shut we're fucked for child care.

We are getting pro rata bank holiday hours regardless of whether we are due to work Monday or not. So for example, I usually work 2 days a week including Monday so I will get about 3 hours off for free but will need to use my annual leave to cover the rest of the shift or work it back on another day.
Someone else who works 2 days but not a Monday will be getting a bonus 3 hours bank holiday leave that they can book in whenever they want until end of year!

My work hasn't decided what we are doing yet - NHS day clinic. I think all red flag/urgent appointments are going ahead in our trust. As an unscheduled care service (not ED) we are waiting for our consultant to confirm if they are going to work or not as we can't operate without medical cover.

At the moment we've been told that if we are scheduled to work to assume we are working and we will get a day off in lieu.

I was working 8 hr shift now just 5 hours (we are open 5 to 10). Theyve taken 3 hours out of my holiday allowance, as we haven't been told if we are getting an an extra days leave for it, Pro rata.

At my work we are closed for the morning and afternoon but open for the evening. I usually do Monday evenings and was asked if I was happy to come in. I'm not sure what they would have done if I had said no though 😂 it was pretty much "you need to work but we are asking if that's ok so that we look like we care".

For those that usually work Monday daytimes they can either have the day off unpaid or swap it for one of their usual days off.

We get extra holiday allowance for Bank Holidays so I expect they will add on a day this year. Personally I don't mind because I'm not losing a shift, not losing one of my usual days off and I should get extra holiday allowance. But for some of my colleagues it's crap.

My work place hasn't confirmed whether we are closing Monday yet so I assume I will have to work as usual. I'm more annoyed that every other business owned by the same company is going to shut on Monday, but not ours. I'm not too worried as I need the money but it's more the inconsistency of the company and it does make childcare a bit difficult (obviously that's a me problem I don't expect my employers to worry about that). I would be very annoyed if they tried to swap another pre-agreed day off though!

We were told on Monday evening that we were closing (large retailer) but only today have they announced that we will be paid for our shifts (basic rate) but if we want to work then we'll be paid BH rate (time and a quarter).
