Do I really need the atm to be sad for queen?

Whoops1 · 14/09/2022 03:25

Even the screen on my atm was black with a message from the bank re the queens death. It just feels like..virtue signalling? Band waggoning? And somehow inappropriate. Take a page in the times, but to shove it on an atm? Just feels undignified somehow..
Not long ago every business was proud of supporting pride.not so many mentioned disabled week mind.

It's everywhere, even on here. Don't forget your bank is a business and would hate to get on the wrong side of Charlie Charles and the government.

Just sensible to black everything.

Other than my bank account it seems. Red!

pompomdaisy · 14/09/2022 04:04

If they didn't you would get a load of people complaining about that too. Just come off your phone.

Robinsonsquashedme · 14/09/2022 04:10

I thought this earlier when I saw it on a message on the front of a bus!

Put it on the company's website amd social media by all means. But it doesn't need to be said on an ATM or a bus!

Yubgftr · 14/09/2022 04:10

I agree, it's ridiculous. TBH I can't wait for all this to be over, fed up of the bandwaggoning, virtue signalling, sickly patriotism and blanket coverage.

Richielogic · 14/09/2022 04:12

I phoned metro bank today, it's always a nightmare before they answer, you know the usual "your call is important to us" well if it was they would employ more staff but i digress.

Anyhow today in addition to the normal, the message tells us about the sad loss of the Queen,,,,,,

So its even on the automated phone lines

Roselilly36 · 14/09/2022 04:33

Yes, I have started to avoid the news, it’s just so depressing. I am sad at the loss of our Queen, but I feel the press coverage is very intrusive to her family that are grieving. Businesses seem to have lost their way and just copy what others are doing, closing, black websites etc. Center Parcs a clear example of this.

Robinsonsquashedme · 14/09/2022 04:39

Oh I remembered the other one.

There was a Nintendo thing online that my kids wanted to watch earlier. Usually it would be 'live streamed' on their website. It's basically just a big, long advert, so it's not actually 'live'.

Anyhoo as a 'mark of respect to the Queen' Nintendo UK were not going to 'live stream' this but upload it as a video to their website an hour after the 'live stream'. So they were basically just doing the same thing but an hour later? I just thought the whole thing was so bizarre? As if the royal family are arsed what time a company uploads videos to their website!

Everyone I know is just glad for the day off and planning something to do.

Companies can’t win though. If they hadn’t made a gesture, some twats on twitter would be up in arms and then they would be accused of disrespect in the shitty papers.

It’s no secret that business have monitored their support of causes such as pride. Again, if they don’t make a gesture, people will accuse them of being anti - lbgt. And they use it as a marketing tactic. It’s the same with cause they support. They do it in their own interests.

I don’t think it make a huge difference what colour screens are etc so while I think it’s unnecessary it’s also not a big deal worth moaning about.

Andromachehadabadday · 14/09/2022 05:18

Monetised not monitored pride🙄

SpringRainbow · 14/09/2022 05:29

I do think to some extent companies are dammed if they don’t and dammed if they do.

Most of these companies probably honestly don’t care but they are “doing something” just so they can say that they have “as a mark of respect”.

Twiglets1 · 14/09/2022 05:52

Personally I’m getting funeral fatigue over the whole thing. Nothing against the Queen herself but roll on Tuesday and a return to normality.

ChagSameachDoreen · 14/09/2022 06:15

It's what she would have wanted.

I for one, would genuinely not complain if the cash machine wasn't advertising condolences for the Queen.

I'm sick to death of it all. Its pathetic.

I'd agree that it is going far too far now.

I liked the Queen and I wish King Charles III well, but who really gives a crap about what is on the screen of an ATM? Have members of the royal family even looked at 5hem, or Buckingham Palace staff? I highly doubt it.

Topseyt123 · 16/09/2022 03:41

I also highly doubt that the Queen left any written wishes about what should be displayed on ATMs, or that Centerparcs should evict it's guests for 24 hours.

It's all just going rather too far now.

StoneofDestiny · 16/09/2022 07:18

The whole thing is a total pantomime. Bad enough carting a corpse all over the country and it costing taxpayers billions of pounds, now we have flights cancelled, hospital appointments cancelled, doctors surgeries shut and the news being taken over daily by running commentaries of who is wearing what to 'pay their respects' again!
Its way too much - and who knows what our government is doing to get us out of the financial mess we are in?

JamSandle · 16/09/2022 12:27

You don't need to be anything.
