Thanks to reading half a dozen books on the topic and endless articles online - I'm ok with the how tos - how to be more organised, how to make lists, how to plan out goals and so on. The countless suggestions make sense, some are so simple and glaringly obvious, others seem a little pointless.

I start off so eager, full of enthusiasm, ready to implement the suggestions in a bid to becoming the woman whose ' got her shit together '.

Despite being armed with The Knowledge, I have a stunning inability to actually do anything about any of it.

In the words of my nan - how the fuck do I do it?

Best to start small and build momentum over time (you need to train yourself to focus more effectively for longer).

Both daily - as in get some easy tasks done early and start ticking the to do list for the day and overall - by focusing on increasing your productive time consistently over days and weeks (3 weeks to change a habit etc).

as a fellow sufferer I do wonder if procrastination is the defining disease of the knowledge worker age

@MaryJoLisa are you me??!!

This resonates with me SO much. (ADD recently diagnosed)

Figrolls14 · 13/09/2022 23:34

get enough sleep....

does seem to make a difference to find at at which part of the day you are usually most on it/able to concentrate/bang things out and then schedule stuff for then, as I’m sure it said anyway in all the Knowledge you have absorbed OP

I have to have external pressure, deadline I’ll get it done, people coming to the house - it’s spotless. Otherwise I live in fear of people knowing I live in messy chaos. I would have much less stress if I just did whatever needed to be done but I don’t and won’t so I try to not worry.

That is of no help really sorry 😞

MochaShots · 13/09/2022 23:43

I'm 3 weeks into my ADHD medication... its revolutionary. I've got more done in the last few weeks than I have in the last few years!

Haven't quite managed to stop but I LOVE this talk, and sometimes have a chuckle with my son (a chip off the old block) about being in the 'dark playground'.
It is quite long but well worth watching:

Figrolls14 · 13/09/2022 23:46

Emma :) I don’t have any yet but they sound great!

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 13/09/2022 23:48

This is funny. Almost everyone on Mumsnet is procrastinating something or they wouldn't be on there (unless they have done a pregnancy test and need someone elses opinion on if there is a line).

My friend has just been diagnosed (diagnosed herself - had us all do questionnaires about her to send to analyst). She says I have it too. My thoughts are if I have it then most people I know have it. I think it is just normal behaviour. I looked at the behaviour traits and it was like looking at one of those horoscopes.... it pretty much summed up most people. The meds sound good though and I like a pill based solution to a problem better than having to think or talk things through so I might try and get a diagnosis too.........

The irony is though I will of course never get around to getting an appointment to even talk to a doctor about it.

And that is where the rub is.... how can procrastination be due to ADHD because if it was how do the ADHD people know they have ADHD because if they were really procrastinating things they wouldn't get around to getting the appointment and even if they got that far they seriously would never get around to picking up the filled script from the pharmacy.

It is all an unsolved mystery.

FannyCann · 13/09/2022 23:49

I’m going to start tomorrow

I was very surprised this wasn't the first reply but I guess @Allthegoodnamesarechosen had to have a cup of tea and think about it first. Wink

Less "And that is where the rub is.... how can procrastination be due to ADHD because if it was how do the ADHD people know they have ADHD because if they were really procrastinating things they wouldn't get around to getting the appointment and even if they got that far they seriously would never get around to picking up the filled script from the pharmacy."

but having ADHD doesn't mean you literally get nothing done ever.

This thread is so funny, in a good way. I love the mad arm flapping approach at solving a problem!

Look up Mel Robbins.

The 5 second rule is a game changer.
