To think publishing the video of King Charles getting annoyed when signing a visitors book today is very unkind?

He has lost both parents in a short time frame, had a disagreement with his own son and taken on a very stressful job at the height of grief. AIBU to think this should not have been made public? Most people would lose their temper at a time like that in their own lives. Why publish this?

If no-one started threads AIBU would be empty

He's doing alright. I think the past few days have surely been absolutely exhausting so we need to cut him some slack. Remember he also sat with his dying mother for 24 hours before we knew anything so he's going ok. I'm a republican but on a human level he's holding it together pretty well. I'd be struggling with the sheer tiredness by now if I was in his shoes.

Pallisers · 13/09/2022 22:29

The late Queen of the UK and her mother aged very well so I think people have an expectation that Charles will age similarly. He hasn't. It looks like Anne has though. He reminded me of my FIL at a similar age - querulous and anxious. I doubt very much that Charles in his 80s will be as his mother and father were in their 80s. It must be hard to be rolled out as he has been this past week, but thems the breaks with an hereditary monarchy. I feel sorrier for Camilla tbh. This can't be what she wanted to be doing in her mid 70s.

MrsFezziwig · 13/09/2022 22:30

Interesting that posters are sneering at Charles & Camilla “living apart” - from the descriptions of relationships on here quite a lot of posters might fare better if they followed their example.

Isaidnoalready · 13/09/2022 22:32

Re the redundancy notice honestly they will most likely be found jobs elsewhere or with William they have given the maximum amount of notice to give people as much time as possible

Here's the video for anyone who hasn't seen it 🤓

amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/sep/13/oh-god-i-hate-this-king-charles-expresses-frustration-over-leaking-pen

Surely at over 70 he has been well-prepared for his life of extreme privilege and paper-signings, as well as the death of his parents in their late 90's

Wow. I thought the inkwell moment wasn't that bad, but this is almost childish rage - hate to say it, but I can't imagine the queen ever acting this way.

That is not true about notice. They have started the first part of the legal redundancy process. No notices have yet been given.

BoffinMum · 13/09/2022 22:37

He was one of the people behind plans for all the self-aggrandising touring around and the endless standing on ceremony. Given he helped create the monster that is the Royal Mourning extravaganza, he should jolly well control his feelings therefore. (Camilla looks like she is walking on eggshells).

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 22:17

It's all over the media. I haven't publicized anything! Hmm

Of course you have. I bet I'm not the only one who hadn't heard about it until you posted this thread!

you've highlighted it, to say they shouldn't have publicised it. Very odd behaviour.

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 22:40

Then you must not read/listen to news then. You don't need to read/post on threads if you don't like them.

He’s always been a twat, hasn’t he? Just coz his mother has died and he’s now supposedly our king are we all supposed to pretend that he hasn’t always been childish and petulant and really un-charismatic?

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 22:40

I think your reaction is odd.

I’m not a big royalist either but I can certainly understand his frustration! When I saw him and his siblings stood around the coffin whilst people watched them all…I just thought the whole thing was superfluous and well, awkward to be frank.

He has the weight of the world on his shoulders right now. However, I do find it difficult comparing his grief to what we may feel if we lost a parent as it’s probably safe to assume that they’re not as close as we may be with our families. Of course, we do all grieve for loved ones despite the relationship, and we do all grieve differently. Certainly, the first awful day when Charles addressed us, he looked deeply upset. I do think though, a lot of his temper is having to perform in this goldfish bowl that really feels like it’s going on too long.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 13/09/2022 22:43

Well the man made his young sons march behind their mother's coffin in front of thousands of people in a live streamed that was beamed to billions around the world. His sons couldn't even cry on the day on the day they buried their mother.

He needs to learn to suck it up like they did and stop behaving like a.petulant twat.

Thegroaninggurner · 13/09/2022 22:44

Actually when a reign comes to an end then all staff are made redundant or find a place with other royalty so he is following protocol. The only one that is not is the Scouser that was closest to the queen and now I want to read her book as she sounds like such an interesting character, the queen has made sure she has to stay in the palace.

twilightermummy · 13/09/2022 22:44

(Camilla looks like she is walking on eggshells).

Completely agree.

billy1966 · 13/09/2022 22:44

XelaM · 13/09/2022 22:22

I also noticed this.

So did I.
Camilla has her hands full there I imagine!
I think he is very weather beaten.
Anne is aging well and seems a very fit and agile woman.

Dreamwhisper · 13/09/2022 22:05

Are you joking? Your post makes out like he has snapped at someone or fired an individual in misplaced anger and grief.

He's systematically making jobless dozens of people who are working very hard and who could have been kept on in a new role.

It's kind of pathetic (actually, deceptive) to pretend it's just grief and upset causing him to lash out. That would be perfectly understandable.

He is both allowed to grieve and has my sympathies, and is wrong to allow this to happen. They are not mutually exclusive things and you cannot excuse the latter due to the former.

Doesn’t the letter literally say they will be kept on in a new role if there is one or will be found or supported to find new roles either in another household or outside the royal household if not kept on?

I was young at the time so didn't really get it but since having kids go through their ages I have thought about it very differently.

stayathomer · 13/09/2022 22:45

There are loads of videos of charles making nasty comments and being short tempered. It's who he is. He is a spoilt boy who surrounded himself with yes men from young age. He just doesn't have the grace he should for this role. We might as well get used to it. It has nothing to do with his grief.
Since this op is about this video, and going on this one Id say it is probably stress and grief, seems quite normal to me, the whole ‘what date is it?’ etc. He’s human. God if they wanted dirt on me they’d get more drama than that nothing video!!!!!

PipinwasAuntieMabelsdog · 13/09/2022 22:46

Did he make that decision re the children? I thought it was the DOE? I remember Gyles Brandreth saying something about the DOE thinking it was an important mark of respect from the children and he asked them 'Will you walk if I walk with you?' and apparently he was talking to William about all the landmarks they walked by to keep him focused.

DoE was another right old cunt as well.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 13/09/2022 22:50

Pipin come of it. The DOE couldn't really force anything. As a father he should have stepped in and put his foot down instead.of bowing to expectations. Dianas brother was horrified at the suggestion so it's not as if he didn't have any guidance from others. What he did was wrong. And if he did it because his dad wanted it it was also cowardly.

reesewithoutaspoon · 13/09/2022 22:52

Hes always been tetchy
I have noticed an increase in 'positive' Charles media recently though. extolling his environmental credentials and his work with the princes trust, there's a definitive shift in trying to show him in a good light. I think the royal PR machine know he was never going to be as popular as his mother and will do their best to sell him to the public
