To think publishing the video of King Charles getting annoyed when signing a visitors book today is very unkind?

He has lost both parents in a short time frame, had a disagreement with his own son and taken on a very stressful job at the height of grief. AIBU to think this should not have been made public? Most people would lose their temper at a time like that in their own lives. Why publish this?

@derxa

That's what you call barking? Are you watching the same clip you posted?
Being lighthearted and funny with her aide, in-laws and the public. And you say she barked?

T1Dmama · 14/09/2022 20:47

I think the person who messed with the pen knowing it would make a mess is an arse hole… I also think if I were Charles I would carry my own pen.
I think anyone with an ounce of sympathy will empathise with his reaction at a difficult time too…

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2022 20:49

I'm sure that a multi billionaire can buy a decent pen ! He needs to

Dinoteeth · 14/09/2022 20:51

I think it was his own pen.

Someone up thread mentioned the pressure in air travel doesn't do fountain pens any good.

I'm prepared to cut him some slack, given his mum, and the multiple things he's had to do this week.

LovelyIssues · 14/09/2022 20:51

@BirdyWoof thankyou!!

Yes some of us do have children to look after. It doesn't take away the unimaginable grief of losing a parent or any very close loved one. We all cope differently. He has had to grief under cameras constantly. Show some compassion people.

LovelyIssues · 14/09/2022 20:56

Just watched the clip, it's being so blown out of proportion 🙄he is not fueled with rage as some reporters (leeches) claim. Get a grip

Roussette · 14/09/2022 20:56

The flying / driving about must be hard , but maybe they will rest up later on next week and things will calm down a lot for them. Then it's time to grieve properly.

He's back at Highgrove In Gloucestershire now. Resting

derxa · 14/09/2022 20:43

I have. She was cutting a cake with a sword like knife and was finding it tricky. Her aide shouted that they had a more conventional implement. HM barked at her.

Barked at her? 🤣 She really didn’t.

derxa · 14/09/2022 20:58

I've told this story many times. My late DF won a competition at the now defunct Royal Smithfield Show in London. (sheep competition). Charles was presenting the prizes. My DF slapped PC on the back and shouted loudly, 'Yes I bred the buggers' Charles looked a bit perturbed but was very nice about it. He cares about family farms. I have a lot of time for him. They should have made sure his fucking pen was working.

LovelyIssues · 14/09/2022 20:58

@antelopevalley the 2nd time in days lol wow?! I take it you haven't been through grief of someone very close to you?! He has done amazing!

Good! I've just watched the parade today, he looked completely exhausted. I hope Ann is resting somewhere too.

Ifeelsuchafool · 14/09/2022 21:01

The Windsor men are spoilt rotten though I think Edward has learned better than his two older brothers to curb it in public. Thanks to levelheaded Sophie I suppose. The monarchy is now outmoded. Time to dismantle and move on. I had a great deal of personal admiration for the late queen but won't recognise the new incumbant at all. A quick look at the photos for QEll and KClll proclamation or whatever it's called shows the total lack of interest in the monarchy today.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 14/09/2022 21:01

Yeah, I was surprised at this being regarded as one of those memorable moments that the queen showed her sense of humour. I personally found it slightly on the tetchy side, the way she said "I KNOW there is!". She then backtracked with the "this is just more unusual". Maybe she felt she was being patronised, having it pointed out to her that there was a normal knife too, but I felt that she displayed a lack of manners on that occasion. She could have simply said "well, I'm thankful the knife is there in case I can't manage it but I'm jolly well going to have a go at using this samurai sword (or whatever it was) first."

I'm sure it must be very tiresome signing pieces of paper all day, but it sort of goes with the territory

😂😂 Crikey - such a chore, for which he gets a job for life for himself and his offspring and their spouses, multiple mansions and palaces, servants to serve his every wish and command (including removal of inkwells) and no worry about healthcare, education or the electricity bill(s) - or even funeral costs.

You forgot to mention he doesn't have to worry about inheritance tax bills.

Dinoteeth · 14/09/2022 21:06

I don't think we can compare cutting a cake that's going to end up in a bigger mess were its going, to signing legal documents or stuff that will be kept for ever. I'm sure he'd also make a joke over a cake.

anon666 · 14/09/2022 21:07

If it was out of character, maybe. But it's yet another example of him being an over privileged arse.

So it's more than unkind, it's actually treasonous in a way.

Bring it on. I thought the queen was, awesome but I have no such fondness for Charles, and I think now is the time people are going to say it.

Oh ffs. His pen leaked, he was grumpy and lost his temper. He shouldn’t have. It doesn’t make him evil but he should be able to remain calm in a situation like that. Not sure what you farm story had to do with anything, so he didn’t lose his temper at your dad nor should he have, he doesn’t deserve any sort of mention for not shouting or whatever you think he could have done instead.

Farming animals though, no time for that. Or the hunting. Vile.

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2022 21:13

I wish that Anne was our new Queen.
She'd be fabulous.
(However, if he gets a new pen, it might just be fine. Here's hoping!)

LeatherBasket · 13/09/2022 21:09

He's 73 years old. In the limelight. His mother has just died. Lots meetings, public grieving. That bloody pen would be the tip of an iceberg. I don't blame him for feeling frustrated. I wouldn't be able to bear that stupid pen either after the week he has had.

This exactly! I agree with you, people should give the poor man a break. And everyone saying he’s had 73 years training or he has been well prepared for his mother passing away, what the heck?!? Who is anyone to determine how he should feel? 90 or not, she was his mum and he is obviously grieving. Have a heart. King or not, he’s human, with thoughts and feelings.

Tort · 14/09/2022 21:24

I’ve had to deal with him a few time professionally and it didn’t seem out of character in the slightest. He was quite tricky, had to carefully handled and made a fuss about lots of things.

sidebirds · 14/09/2022 21:38

I feel that 'the mask slipped' with the hissy fit mentioned by the OP, together with a similar piece of behaviour captured on film from a day or so earlier. Regardless of recent loss (R.I.P.), what is revealed is that behind the persona of the amiable innocent resides a rather unpleasant piece of work.

greenhousegal · 14/09/2022 21:47

Will he get grumpier as he gets older? Camilla knows what he is like, no wonder she kept her bolt hole in Ray Mill House to escape now and then. But will she be able to be apart as much as she used to be? She is Queen Consort now, not the Prince's wife/appendage anymore so may have to step up to the plate regarding joint public appearances a lot more. She is funked if Charles decides to visit the Commonwealth countries isn't she? I'd flipping hate all that at her stage in life.

But she signed up for it, and unless Charles was the abdicating type the gig was always going to be his so she knew what was ahead of her.

TarasHarp55 · 14/09/2022 21:53

How do we know how grief stricken he is. We haven't a clue how he felt about his mother have we. There's a lot on here gone NC with their mum's. We don't know how he feels. But I think their relationship was quite formal.
