With cheese

XenoBitch · 13/09/2022 19:56

With some thick gravy and mint sauce.

Stropalotopus83 · 13/09/2022 19:57

Morrisons mash with colcannon is delicious. I only use this now when making sausage and mash.

Hobbes8 · 13/09/2022 19:54

With cheese

Then shoved back in the microwave for 40 seconds.

Myownpapillon · 13/09/2022 19:58

I hate to say it but Iceland's frozen mash is pretty good too ...

OhmygodDont · 13/09/2022 19:58

Microwave mash ? You’ve lost me. As in the pre done stuff or actually making Mash in the microwave.

noomchikka · 13/09/2022 19:59

The hours of my life I've wasted on peeling potatoes for inevitably lumpy mash...

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/09/2022 19:59

And it freezes well.

The clue is in the word convenience food.

Which store do you buy this from @noomchikka ?

Asking as in my experience ready mashed potato from the chiller section is very gloopy. OTOH I quite like the Idahoan packet mash or frozen mash is bearable too .

ditalini · 13/09/2022 20:02

God yes. I used to treat myself to a tub of M&S mash, or their mixed root veg mash to see me through on a particularly trying late shift back in the day.

Just sit for 30mins eating hot mash and trying to forget that I was on til midnight.

imsanehonest · 13/09/2022 20:04

It's never as nice as home made mash but it's quick, convenient and all gets eaten in this house. I have noticed though it doesn't retain its heat very long once served.

GeorgeorRuth · 13/09/2022 20:04

I buy frozen mash too..dollop of butter, splash of milk. Saves time and I can do the amount we actually need.

AgentJohnson · 13/09/2022 20:08

Wrap a few spuds tightly in baking parchment (pierce a few time with a sharp knife before wrapping). Place in the microwave on full power for 3 minutes, flip them over and cook them for another 3 minutes more. Don’t take them out once cooked, leave them in the microwave for another five minutes. After the 5 minutes is up unwrap, cut them in half and scoop out flesh. Mash the potatoes with butter and milk and season. You’ll never have lumpy mash or have to peel a potato ever again, you’re welcome.

AlisonDonut · 13/09/2022 20:09

Get two slices of bread, fork the mash on and then cover in cheese. Pop under the grill. Add Tabasco and ketchup.

A580Hojas · 13/09/2022 20:11

Yabu. I think it is Sainsbury's lentil dahl soup.

No way am I doing that how faffy. Love my mash straight in the microwave and out again, no faffing or mashing.

When I make my own mash, I add lots of milk and butter and get fatter as I can eat lots of it. So, now I use M&S mash because it is almost as nice and I know exactly how many calories are in a tub.

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2022 20:15

I dunno. Mash is pretty easy to make anyway. I can whip some up in the pressure cooker in no time.

CMOTDibbler · 13/09/2022 20:17

Idahoan instant mash takes the crown for me. Bloody amazing

oddoneoutalways · 13/09/2022 20:22

I never make my own mash any more. I never will again!

Morrisons Best or M+S fresh mash is bloody delicious and even my mother who turns her nose up at anything pre-prepared complimented me on my lovely mash the other Sunday. She had a total cats bum face on when I told her it came out do the microwave Grin

Too tip, microwave it and if you want to use it for a cottage/shepherds pie let it cool a bit and then stick it through a ricer. It's already smooth, but the way it falls out of the ricer directly on top of the (cooled) pie filling, if you leave it alone, goes amazingly crunchy in the oven. If you do both when they're still very hot it just dissolves into a slop, be warned!

SomethingFast · 13/09/2022 20:23

I must try the Idohoan mash, thanks!
The best thing about tubs of microwave mash is that I’m the only person in the house who likes mash (weirdos) so I get a whole one to myself.

BuffaloCauliflower · 13/09/2022 20:24

I make most things from scratch happily but a good smooth microwave mash is a guilty pleasure

fairgame84 · 13/09/2022 20:27

I can't eat lumpy mash and I can't make non lumpy mash.
Microwave mash is the king of convenience foods. I put it on top of homemade fish pie and cottage pie as well.

brookstar · 13/09/2022 20:27

Microwave mash is the best .... I assume you mean the frozen pellet thingies?

I'm a total potato snob but I've not made my own mash in years.
