YANBU

Have you tried Sainsbury’s frozen??

Because it is a LOT better than you’d think, and cheaper.

HerbErtlinger · 13/09/2022 20:30

I'm a recent convert and I'm so happy to never have to peel and mash another potato. Also love the Idahoan cheese mash with peas and gravy. So nice

Ladyof2022 · 13/09/2022 20:30

What I do:

Microwave for 30 seconds shorter than the allotted time.
Pull off lid and squidge a huge lump of butter into the middle.
Microwave for 30 seconds.

Wrap a few spuds tightly in baking parchment (pierce a few time with a sharp knife before wrapping). Place in the microwave on full power for 3 minutes, flip them over and cook them for another 3 minutes more. Don’t take them out once cooked, leave them in the microwave for another five minutes. After the 5 minutes is up unwrap, cut them in half and scoop out flesh. Mash the potatoes with butter and milk and season. You’ll never have lumpy mash or have to peel a potato ever again, you’re welcome.

Very kind but it will be a cold day in hell before I contemplate that (or own baking parchment*).

*what?

Idahoan instant mash takes the crown for me. Bloody amazing

Agreed. Completely converted to this stuff. I add butter.

Do you mean wrap a bundle of them together inside the parchment, or wrap each potato separately?

Frozen jacket potatoes

Crikeyalmighty · 13/09/2022 20:36

Idahoan dried instant I think is even better-just add white pepper!!

Crikeyalmighty · 13/09/2022 20:38

I think the dried is particularly good for shepherds pie as it's quite stiff !

Sheetonthebed · 13/09/2022 20:40

Idahoan is delicious

BarrelOfOtters · 13/09/2022 20:42

microwave M&S mash. Spinach or one of their veg in plastic. Smoked haddock in foil and butter in oven. Tea in 15 minutes from start to finish.

Bunnynames101 · 13/09/2022 20:44

Mmmmmm... Mash.

I do however tend to make my own. Make a big vat every few months, mash it, freeze it. 5 minutes in the microwave from frozen. Ummmmm.

Bit of Philadelphia too

Mix the creamy mash with the root veg mash 👌

I do this with frozen mash too. I think it's probably cheaper and tastes the same.

ThinWomansBrain · 13/09/2022 20:52

I haven't had any in ages, but used to keep a bag of the frozen 'pellets' from iceland - briliant for making cottage pie, fish pie...
If you layer them on carefully it looks as if youve even piped the potato on.

SunnieShine · 13/09/2022 20:59

Sainsbury's frozen mash is gorgeous.

XenoBitch · 13/09/2022 21:02

Iceland have a range of Cathedral City cheese products. They do a cheesy mash. Not tried it yet though.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 13/09/2022 21:08

Nah nah nah nah. Frozen mash is the way to go. Sometimes I just make a massive bowl with some chip shop gravy. Lush.

BlancmanegeBunny · 13/09/2022 21:09

I'm pretty much a cook from scratch girl but I love frozen mash. I used some today from Farmfoods.... Ingredients, potato, butter, salt, pepper.
No peeling and mashing, and its cheap.

Mousseline - French instant mash, bloody amazing!

GoodbyeErinsborough · 13/09/2022 21:27

I haven't read the thread but I couldn't possibly agree more.
My dad and dp are disappointed if we have real mash!

Belledan1 · 13/09/2022 21:28

Big fan here too. Great for cottage pie. Teen can make mash themselves in 2 mins. Also good for diet. Mix a bit with cabbage and carrots and you feel you have got loads. Has gone up though. Sure morrisons used to be 80p now about 1.50
