I understand that people across the country want to pay their respects to the late Queen but to send her body on a 2 day cross country journey from Scotland to London where she will be in a room for people to parade past 24/7 for a week doesn't seem to be very peaceful and a little undignified somehow. Her children are having to escort her on various legs of her journey. The Princess Royal. In particular, looks exhausted. King Charles is having to travel all around the country to meet and greet people.

AIBU to think that the whole country is allowed to mourn the loss of an great Queen except her own family. They have to carry on regardless 😪

It's reputedly what HMQ wanted. Her daughter has been with her every step of the way. That curtsey at Holyrood. The long slow walk up the Royal Mile and the vigil.

I sure as hell hope that wasn't for an empty coffin as that really would be disrespectful.

I think they are all very used to putting on a show, keeping up appearances, doing what is expected, keeping their opinions to themselves, covering up uncomfortable truths etc..

As such I would not be in the least surprised if they were following an empty coffin about safe in the knowledge that their beloved mother / grandmother was somewhere else.

HMQ tended to do what she thought the people wanted, not what she wanted- although I expect that the two things became very muddled at times.

I don't know but we have 5 more days until the funeral and to be honest its seems more like torture than tradition/respect.

They need to allow time for the VIPs who are coming from overseas to make their arrangements. They've been asked not to use private planes (for environmental reasons and so as not to clog up the airspace, I suppose), so will be having to take commercial flights as and when they're available.

Hahaha brilliant.

So the World's VIPs have received an invite and been instructed as to how they are allowed to travel!

The worlds most powerful people will leave behind their private jets and find seats on Ryanair and EasyJet coz King Charles or Liz Truss told them to. Will they also get the Piccadilly Line to their YMCA accommodation?

I think you'll find that they will do whatever they choose. Some will make a considered choice so as to avoid bad publicity, but we are not waiting for the likes of President Biden to find a seat on a regular flight.

Air Force one is coming apparently. and the beast.

But the people coming want to be there. They want to be seen there.

They aren’t just coming to pay their respects. They are coming because it’s expected and it’s show of how important they are.

I feel bad for which ever team of people have to coordinate these people coming in.

Arsewangry · 14/09/2022 10:25

The Queen will have had complete oversight of her funeral plans, and as a stickler for tradition however I'm 100% sure she wouldn't have approved anything she wasn't comfortable with.

I thought the same too op. Surely the day off the funeral would have been enough for the general public to pay their respects rather than to parade her coffin across the country. And king Charles must be exhausted he is in his 70s himself.
Also when have they had the time to embalm the queen's body or has it not been embalmed?

The Queen was at Balmoral for two days after her death, so presumably would have been embalmed during that period.

I think that is nonsense. The Queen was authentic, and in no way would have agreed to the charade of an empty coffin.

Just dawned on me what a security nightmare Monday is going to be 😂

As a PP said, most of the world's most powerful people gathered in one place. What could possibly go wrong? 🤔

Pinkpeony2 · 14/09/2022 12:00

So, you think that a queen who’s entire adult life for the past 70 years , dedicated in every way to duty, following traditions to the letter, every single moment being very much a royal queen wouldn’t want to follow duty and traditions after her death?
Give your heads a wobble. This is what being a royal is all about. Death and handing to the next royal is perhaps the biggest duty and tradition of both of their lives (and deaths) She would absolutely have wanted every moment of this and will have overseen and been involved in the planning years ago.

It happens all the time, G20 meetings, etc.

Pinkpeony2 · 14/09/2022 12:08

It’s actually boggling my mind that people are shocked by this.
Didn't you realise that this is what it would be like when the queen died?
Did you really think that it would be a quiet affair and a one day kind of deal?
For most people this is a huge once in a life time historical event.
Im just honestly shocked that people are in any way surprised.

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 14/09/2022 12:09

@YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse Very true...on a bigger scale than that though surely?

Anyway I'm sure it's all in hand.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/09/2022 08:22

Can't believe people are so stupid to think that it's an empty coffin. Of course it isn't. That would be disrespectful to everyone.

They've been told to go to some "park and ride" type set up at an undisclosed location and will be bussed to the funeral! Shame really that there won't be a procession.

Apparently it's been a nightmare to work out who to sit with whom.

The reasoning is that it would take too long, and cause too much congestion, if they all arrived independently. And imagine the arguments about precedence, number of outriders, etc, if they were all allowed to arrive separately.

Apparently it's been a nightmare to work out who to sit with whom.

Remember that scene from 'Yes, Prime Minister' where they're planning the funeral of the late Prime Minister?

Unforgettablefire · 17/09/2022 13:34

Do they have a choice whether to lie in state and have a state funeral?
Would the queen have been aware of everything that's taken place? I know she would have arranged some of it but I'd hate to think she wouldn't want the lying in state and it's been done against her wishes.

I despise the idea of monarchy and even I agree with you OP! I think it's terribly undignified and all I can think is leave the poor old lady alone. I wouldn't want thousands of strangers staring at the dead body of my relative. It's so invasive! She was just an old lady at the end of the day and I hate this idea that even her corpse is public property. Grim.

Yes, the Queen would have known and approved it. The Duke of Edinburgh turned down a state funeral.

The queens poor dead body. No peace even after death. People go on about them being royals. But they're more like slaves. Poor them.

This happens all over the world.
