Queen Elizabeth. Rest in Peace?

I understand that people across the country want to pay their respects to the late Queen but to send her body on a 2 day cross country journey from Scotland to London where she will be in a room for people to parade past 24/7 for a week doesn't seem to be very peaceful and a little undignified somehow. Her children are having to escort her on various legs of her journey. The Princess Royal. In particular, looks exhausted. King Charles is having to travel all around the country to meet and greet people.

AIBU to think that the whole country is allowed to mourn the loss of an great Queen except her own family. They have to carry on regardless 😪

Watching BBC1 atm , miles and miles of traffic stood still in the fast lane as she passes, its extraordinary.. How do all these drivers know whats happening and when to slow down?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/09/2022 19:49

people want to show their respects

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/09/2022 19:50

some cars are stopping

I've just said to DH I bet Charles doesn't know what country he's in or what day it is.
Their heads must be mashed.

True but they have "people" to do all the thinking and doing for them. They just have to know what to do and turn up. Their clothes will all be taken care of, food, sleeping arrangements etc.

It's all part of the well oiled machine that has kicked into action according to what the Queen herself agreed 🤷🏻‍♀️

They are treating her like a piece of furniture! She should be allowed to RIP and her family should be allowed some privacy to grieve.

Surely this was part and parcel of being the Queen. She knew what would happen.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 13/09/2022 19:55

I was in Belfast today and saw the King and Queen consort, they looked so tired but didn’t waiver in smiles and pleasantries. Having to do all this due to protocol and tradition on top of grieving must be an incredible pressure, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone and I think they are doing a superb job. As for Anne, she’s been outstanding and I think this is a point people should really be commending rather than scoffing at. They are doing their duty, what’s expected of them and something I don’t believe many of us would be able to.

waltzingparrot · 13/09/2022 19:56

I can't see why The Royal Family could not have had 2 or 3 days privately at Balmoral with the coffin before this journey started.

FourChimneys · 13/09/2022 19:56

Goldencarp either she's not actually in there and is a fridge somewhere or she's been embalmed.

The queens poor dead body. No peace even after death. People go on about them being royals. But they're more like slaves. Poor them.

That's how it seems. She is being paraded around for the world to see a box. A slave to the people.

Do you think it really makes a difference? It’s still a huge amount of travel, pressure and all on top of grieving. I don’t think it’s fair to try and minimise the absolute enormity of what they have been and will continue to do over the coming week. I think it’s quite petty to try and minimise how well they have done.

Other celebrities and well known people ask for privacy at such a difficult time yet the royal family can't

I reckon she’s already in London. If you notice, they are talking quite carefully about the ‘Queen’s coffin’ as if it is an entity separate from the Queen herself.

caringcarer · 13/09/2022 20:01

Ann looks drained and Sophie Wessex looks broken. I feel so sorry for them. Hard to lose a loved one in any circumstances but RF can't grieve in private as they are constantly on show. The Queen loved Balmoral and I think she chose to go there to die. The Queen apparently was heavy involved in the planning of her own funeral so she will be getting what she wanted. Once funeral day over Queens children can mourn her in peace. I hope Charles holds up. He is in his 70's.

Suzi888 · 13/09/2022 20:02

I’ve not watched any of it, yet. It’s not an open casket surely?

It’s not.-it’s been a Long day! Can’t see the problem then. It’s what she wanted.

Jellykat · 13/09/2022 20:06

I've just noticed the policemen / women who are stood along the roads, bow their heads as she goes past, so many details...

Goldencarp · 13/09/2022 20:09

Snowiscold · 13/09/2022 19:41

The body doesn’t need to be kept cold. It’s in a lead-lined coffin and probably embalmed. It was always traditional for people keep a the body at home until the funeral, and still is in lots of places.

Oh right. Jeez a lead lined coffin must weigh a tonne x

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/09/2022 20:09

She planned this.

It is what she wanted.

Definitely embalmed as well.

That thought crossed my mind. It does make you wonder.

Georgeskitchen · 13/09/2022 20:11

The people if the United Kingdom meant a lot to HM the Queen.
She wanted to be sure that everyone who wished to, could pay their respects. She even arranged to have lights in the hearse so she would still be visible in darkness.
Nobody has forced the crowds to stand waiting for hours. They Di it because they wanted to.
Once it's all over and the Queen is in her final resting place I'm pretty sure they will all take some time away from everything.
Why bother to sit watching the TV coverage then complain about it ?
Just change the bloody channel ffs

I did notice they kept referring to her coffin. Thought it was odd as they hadn't been so specific before. @DotBall

What do you mean? Of course they refer the the coffin, or hearse, because the Queen-as-was is no longer alive. Otherwise, they would have to say the body of the Queen.

TugboatAnnie · 13/09/2022 20:12

The cheering's a bit odd though.
