Center Parcs closing for funeral

ViscountessBridgerton · 13/09/2022 12:43

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

This is when you need a Sergeant Wilson in the room.

Love their statement!

“The vast majority of our guests are either due to arrive or depart on Monday 19th September. We have however, reviewed our position regarding the very small number of guests who are not due to depart on Monday and we will be allowing them to stay on our villages rather than having to leave and return on Tuesday.”

Chazx · 13/09/2022 21:13

we've been every year, apart from one, for last 11 years and i'm starting to lose confidence in CP.

i know we've had a pandemic (lol) but even when we went in August 2022, at the 11th hour they changed access to the swimming area a couple of times before settling. at that point there were no restrictions at all.

People will still go but I'd think twice now and be prepared for some wacky decisions on access and usage

BlueThursday · 13/09/2022 21:16

That’s them overturned their decision now

not unexpected

elizaregina · 13/09/2022 21:19

They could have simply put out notices that they wanted to close for their staff but decided to stay open so please respect our staff will be watching but are there for emergencies or whatever?

Allowed Skelton staff?. perhaps asked who wanted to work?.

Many ways to solve a problem!.

elizaregina · 13/09/2022 21:19

I've never ever heard good things about the place. Ever

Can I ask is it a school holiday next week ?
just wondering how so many families with children are booked in

Children who are not yet school age.
Children who are home schooled.
Children who are having a term time holiday.

Abraxan · 13/09/2022 21:33

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/09/2022 14:58

They are offering partial refunds.

Someone has just said to me that they aren’t for people due to leave on the Monday

That's because 10am is the normal check out time for those leaving in a Monday.

The leisure facilities and grounds haven't always been available in the final day, after check out, and I'm sure their T&C does say there can be changes to it's availability, such as reduced access to the pool in busy times, etc. so I suspect they cover themselves under those terms for the lack of facilities after check out.

PersonaNonGarter · 13/09/2022 12:53

YABU.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful.

Ah hahahahahahaha

Are you Mrs Dalby? Grin

What a crock. It's got fuck all to do with respect and all to do with not paying Bank Holiday rates to their zero hours contract staff.

Abraxan · 13/09/2022 21:41

Whilst frustrating, the leaving at check in time in the Monday could be expected.

With the partial refund or option to cancel, the week day having to start a day later/reduced by a day - fine, annoying but can deal, with.

The 7 day guests having to leave Monday and return Tuesday is ridiculous. They could have just closed the facilities (pool, activities, restaurants, shop, etc`) but let guests stay, with a skeleton staff (there will be some staff happy to work and take their extra day off at another time I'm quite sure) for H&S purposes. Guests would have enough time to be able to ensure they had food in for the day which they can cook themselves. But to effectively throw guests out and expect them to return the next day is really silly.

SleepingAgent · 13/09/2022 21:42

bendmeoverbackwards · 13/09/2022 13:26

Making people leave for one night on Monday is ridiculous. If it was me, I'd just refuse to leave. What can they do??

Yep I reckon there will be a fair few sit-ins - guests will just refuse to leave their lodges they've paid for and "go stay somewhere else" for the night, and quite right too.

I loved the comment on Twitter comparing this to the "Ratner" moment. I hope this selfish company is fucked now.

Soproudoflionesses · 13/09/2022 21:44

I stopped lining their pockets when dd started school - prices are ridiculous and l really feel for anyone who is meant to be staying next week. Could have been handled so much better.

Abraxan · 13/09/2022 21:45

Just seen they've backtracked on the i]rules for their 7 day guests, much more sensible. Frustrating if there and things are closed but at least they don't have to leave their h]rooms for the night!

girlfriend44 · 13/09/2022 21:56

Done a u turn and changed their minds.

ClimbingCancelled · 13/09/2022 22:17

Good to see they've changed their minds.

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 22:19

Only a u turn for those staying Friday - Friday.

Village still closed for people due to arrive Monday, cutting holidays short by a day.

SleepingAgent · 13/09/2022 22:21

pinok · 13/09/2022 17:32

Plus CP advertising the fact the park will be empty but lodges still full of belongings. Hopefully burglars will be too busy mourning.

Good point. People won't want to leave belongings in the lodges but imagine packing everything up to move out for a night and back in again, especially with young kids! That's not a holiday!!

It's utter, utter madness and CP are rightly copping absolute shit for this.

SleepingAgent · 13/09/2022 22:25

Florenz · 13/09/2022 17:57

Good on Centre Parcs. For once a company is putting staff ahead of demanding customers.

Oh yes so demanding, expecting to be able to stay in the accommodation you've booked and paid for.

Stop shit stirring.

I think twitter getting wind of this first has been terrible luck though.that place is a shit show for stirring shit! And let’s face it often lies when people jump on.
cousins disabled family are on four day.they have gladly been aloud to still come on Monday, and early check in.
it was a shocking thought of theirs to try to do what they did. But we’re they being twats, or trying to accomplish and accommodate and lacking staff therefore came up with the worst option?

From a business perspective, it's sheer idiocy no matter what the original aim. Probably thought of and rubber stamped by a whole bunch of people who get paid 6 figures. I admit, I get particularly annoyed by idiocy in the commercial world, but even if I didn't, this is spectacularly bad.

Looks like Centre parcs have done a u-turn overnight. I wonder if anybody will get sacked over this disastrous PR exercise? I was going to book a week during the Easter holidays but now I've decided not to. It's going to take a lot of effort to recover their reputation after this mess.

They’re still expecting the Monday arrivals to not come till Tuesday though.

MrsDThomas · 14/09/2022 06:30

to those who had a break booked for a week, chose to cancel and now CP have done an U-turn.

what happens? Are they able to re-book (if they wanted to!)

those who found a hotel for the night, paid (perhaps nin-refundable like Travelodge and Premier Inn do) they are out of pocket 😡

Maverickess · 14/09/2022 07:13

Had a thought though, maybe they're having to do this because the majority of their staff are saying that they are refusing to work. So they're being held hostage, so to speak?

I doubt refusing to work, probably saying they'll work for extra money with in being a BH and CP not wanting to affect the bottom line profit so decided to close instead, affecting the customers. The majority of companies don't care about anything but the bottom line and this goes to show it.
And if they're being held 'hostage' it's only because the hospitality industry is short on staff generally, because they're treated badly, and it's coming back to bite them in the arse now they need cooperation from them after years of expecting them to bolster the coffers at their own expense.
