Center Parcs closing for funeral

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

Good on Centre Parcs. For once a company is putting staff ahead of demanding customers.

The conditions for staff don’t sound great

It’s probably more to do with avoiding higher costs than looking after them

Deux · 13/09/2022 18:03

Oh and CP had issued a statement. I didn’t catch all of it but it seemed a bit of a word salad.

Mondays are one of CP main changeover days-I think they have a lot of staff that only work Monday and Friday to clean lodges etc. I imagine they are trying to cater for those staff-who I imagine might leave if they feel CP are not a good employer. What I don’t understand thought is why not just change changeover day to the Tuesday instead and close entertainment/activities on Monday and just have skeleton staff.

So the changeover staff who work Fridays to Mondays don't get a day off? Does this mean they are being expected to do changeover on Tuesday instead? So isn't that disruptive to staff? Has anyone actually asked the staff? Are they going to get paid for that day if they don't come into work? The staff will have to deal will disgruntled guests forced to check in / out late.

They could easily have done a reduced service instead - with staff asked if they were happy to do so or not.

I don't believe the assumption that the staff will be happy about this.

How is it putting staff ahead of customers?

Twawmyarse · 13/09/2022 18:05

If had a holiday booked (which I wouldn't as I hate CP) I would cancel and demand all my money back. Are they offering full refunds to people who want them?

PersonaNonGarter · 13/09/2022 12:53

YABU.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful.

If CP find it hard to recruit and retain staff then they need to be looking at a lot more than this unique and unexpected bank holiday. They clearly have bigger problems than the fact that they’ve just destroyed their own reputation.

Not them caring about staff really. Just performative bollocks gone very wrong.

Someone objecting because they have to leave accommodation for 24 hours in the middle of a holiday isn't being 'demanding' - they are literally just expecting the bare minimum that they paid for.

SpinCityBlues · 13/09/2022 18:01

It's not really, is it, if the company goes down the shitter for a Ratners moment

I was thinking that, and surely this is why they need to revise this stupid decision straight away, in the name of damage limitation. If it isn't already too late, as it already was for Gerald Crapner.

Florenz · 13/09/2022 18:08

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 18:00

@Florenz i guess you are saying that because you’re not staying at CP and therefore are not affected by their disastrous decision.

Would love to see how you would react if it was your holiday being ruined by this decision.

are the NHS/Police/ambulance service and others a bad employer for not putting their staff first then?

woukd you be saying this if the hospitals/police decided to shut shop and you were relying on their services on Monday… I think not!

Centre parcs is a leisure facility, not an emergency service.

YoSofi · 13/09/2022 18:08

Centre Parcs don’t give a shit about their staff trust me, I worked there and in their head office for many years.

They will still need staff on site while guests leave - I’m not sure how this is going to work? They are assuming that all guests across all sites will leave on time. They won’t.

It would have been better to close all facilities but allow people to stay in their accommodation on the understanding that it wouldn’t be cleaned that day. It’s all self contained anyway, and leave some staff on site for emergencies. It would only be one or two required to man guest services.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 13/09/2022 18:10

pinok · 13/09/2022 17:32

Plus CP advertising the fact the park will be empty but lodges still full of belongings. Hopefully burglars will be too busy mourning.

Good point. People surely aren't going to be willing to risk leaving for a day in the middle of the holiday. They're going to either cancel it all or stay put regardless.

Mojoj · 13/09/2022 18:10

I've heard it all now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Notlosinganyweight · 13/09/2022 18:10

Wanda616 · 13/09/2022 12:49

That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

I know, it's bloody idiotic. What do they think front line staff do? If you have a duty of care (I.e. running a site safely) you don't just get rid of the people, what do you think happens in a hospital. If you don't have the staff you contact an agency and pay them well.

I would just refuse to leave personally.

EmToon · 13/09/2022 18:11

Absolute joke by Centre Parcs and let's not forget: Charlie ain't paying a penny of Inheritance Tax unlike CP staff.

tenbob · 13/09/2022 18:11

vera99 · 13/09/2022 18:01

If Center Parcs customers are looking for a place to stay on Monday night, they could always try holding up a sign that says ‘not my king’ and I’m sure the Metropolitan Police will find them a room.

😂😂😂

Florenz · 13/09/2022 18:08

@Florenz ok so why are their staff any more deserving of a day off than an emergency service staff member?

what about people working in the shops that are still going to be open?

I bet you would be one to be up in arms if you couldn’t get seen at your local hospital because of a bank holiday!

AlbertaAnnie · 13/09/2022 18:13

They make a bomb! They could offer their staff triple time for working on the Monday and let the guests stay! It’s crazy!

benning · 13/09/2022 18:13

Aquarius1234 · 13/09/2022 17:38

People still go to Centre Parcs?

😂

Ducksurprise · 13/09/2022 18:14

It's going well for CP.

Center Parcs closing for funeral
Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 18:14

I would love to hear from a member of staff to see if they’ve actually been asked if they would be happy to work the BH. I can’t believe that all staff there have demanded to have the day off and threatened to leave if it’s not granted.

MarshaBradyo · 13/09/2022 18:14

An extra day off is nice when you get paid

Not so great when it’s cost saving and you’re just told no thanks

I wouldn’t buy the PR spin on this to make it look good

courtgou · 13/09/2022 18:16

SIL works at the longleat centre parcs, most of the staff are not happy about the decision and a lot of them are still expected to stay at the parc for the day, the ones who aren’t staying all day still have to work until 12, potentially longer if it doesn’t go smoothly, but won’t get paid after 12 regardless of how long they actually stay or what their hours for that day were meant to me.

Stupid decision just done for centre parcs to look good but it’s having the opposite effect for a lot of people.

Anjo2011 · 13/09/2022 18:19

I think they will back track, they will have to. People already there can stay but new arrivals for Monday, come Tuesday. It will be carnage otherwise.
