Center Parcs closing for funeral

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

To be honest why should they? I know that in theory guests can stay until midnight but realistically how many do? We are due to leave Friday and I suspect we’ll be out before 10am.

We stay until the children are ready for bed, so a whole day of activities, swimming and then a meal onsite, then children changed into pj's teeth brushed etc into car so they slept all the way home and we carried them into bed. I would be gutted.

Are you confusing this with changes for covid times when they reopened? We stayed over the summer and had nice message written with chalk for someone in our party celebrating, with the chalk and bowl left there. But I’d hardly class that as a luxury? It’s a nice, fun touch.

Wonder what message those having to vacate on the Monday night will be writing on the chalkboard?

No. We stayed weekend before last at a 2 storey lodge and there was a note on the board for us but no chalk to use. This was Longleat

benning · 13/09/2022 17:22

‘luxury brand’ 🤔

Well they charge luxury prices.

BonesOfWhatYouBelieve · 13/09/2022 17:23

We were at longleat last week and we did have chalk.

Not the point of the thread I know. I'm so glad we were there last week, not next week!

And if I’ve been there for a weekend break I’ve always stayed till Monday evening. We live close by so spend the day swimming, have lunch, another swim, maybe a walk and then leave.

Me too and it’s always busy with other people doing the same

pinok · 13/09/2022 17:25

Soooo what do we think is going to happen?
Stick to their guns or massive backtrack?
would love to see what’s going on behind the scenes!!

Refunds on offer and alternative choices for people. Full story, here

Still not good enough less than a week before your holiday. The partial refund is an insult so the alternative is to cancel your holiday a week before going which is not a good option either. They don’t give a shit about customers or staff.

I'm not sure about joining LinkedIn, I'd be striking this whole episode from my CV and filling the gap with an imaginary trip abroad.

well, I’m afraid he’ll not be able to cover up his previous job:

I though Peak Royal Funeral was cancelling everyone else's funerals across the whole country, and Norwich Council locking up the bike racks until after the 19th September, that kind of overreaction. Yet things have sunk even lower now.

I think all the Center Parcs guests should have a massive sit in. If they did there would be absolutely nothing CP could realistically do about it.

I'd be furious at this if I had booked. I certainly wouldn't politely bugger off for a night and then politely come back and continue to spend money - I'd be off home immediately demanding a full refund for the whole thing.

And all the comments on here about staff being more valuable than customers - Gerald Ratner learned the hard way about taking others for granted. As did Louis XVI of course.

All this ridiculous Royal Cult business is making me ask serious questions about the negative impact of having a monarchy on an otherwise intelligent population AND I AM A RELATIVE!!!!! (Albeit quite distant).

People need to get a grip, honestly.

bloodyunicorns · 13/09/2022 17:30

That's bonkers. So they're happy to take your money but want to boot you out for part of your break. Er, no thanks.

Quite. But expensive does not necessarily equate to luxury. But 1k for 5 days near Mansfield is certainly expensive. 😂.

Ok if a group of adults splitting the price. Think last time I went it cost me £120 for a Fri to Mon in an 8 bed lodge..obviously that was my share of the total cost. But for one family it’s an expensive option.

i’ve been about a dozen times. For a hassle free, relaxing break with kids it was nice enough and I do have more money than sense. Dd went with her bf for a week last spring and it cost them £900 for a week! With a 2 hour slot for the pool each day. She has even less sense than me. I haven’t been back since Covid and certainly won’t return now.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 13/09/2022 17:32

We were at Woburn Forest last week when the news broke of the Queen dying, place was still busy on the night that she died with people carrying on as normal. I do think its crazy to shut for the day and expect people to be out by 10am. Shut the restaurants, activities and pool etc for a few hours but the whole bloody day - madness.

pinok · 13/09/2022 17:32

Plus CP advertising the fact the park will be empty but lodges still full of belongings. Hopefully burglars will be too busy mourning.

Can I ask is it a school holiday next week ?
just wondering how so many families with children are booked in

No - children have only been back in school since the beginning of September

carefullycourageous · 13/09/2022 17:36

This issue seems to be getting a lot of coverage on twitter, I wonder if there could be a u-turn.

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 13/09/2022 17:36

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 13/09/2022 13:13

I wouldn’t be so sure about that.

I imagine that not all their staff are actually going to get the whole day off. Cleaning staff for instance will be expected to be in to clean up after the guests who are being thrown out at 10:00.

I’d be interested to see just how many staff actually get the full day off, and whether they’re being paid for it, given that bank holidays will be written into all their contracts.

I expect they’ll be cleaning the following morning before guests arrive back on site.

Quartz2208 · 13/09/2022 17:37

It is insane - particularly given that Butlins and Parkdean are both staying open, showing the funeral onscreen and having a revised schedule. All of which seems sensible.

That said having never been to Centre Parcs (far far too expensive for what it is and have always gone to Parkdean/Butlins or abroad). Is the staffing model different - both Parkdean and Butlins have entertainment staff who live on site and therefore are there no matter what.

I do think though this may well be backtracked once they realise that the money and publicity backlash outweighs the double pay they woul dhave to give staff

User642986540 · 13/09/2022 17:38

There will be a lot of families with toddlers there as its term time

Aquarius1234 · 13/09/2022 17:38

People still go to Centre Parcs?

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 17:38

I’m praying for a u-turn. I do understand staff may want to watch the funeral but I bet there’s a load who couldn’t care less. If they try to say it’s about childcare issues, surely as half of the UK are off at least one parent/relative will be around to have the kids and those without kids may chose to work. If CP offered an incentive to work I bet people would jump at the chance!

they have really gone and mucked this up big time!

their check in times are ridiculous as it is, we are due to arrive Monday but now can’t access our lodge until 4pm Tuesday, due to work commitments need to leave early Friday morning. So unfair.

Namechangedforthisonetoday · 13/09/2022 17:38

They will do a u turn on this I’m convinced. This is a PR disaster.

LimpBiskit · 13/09/2022 17:39

PersonaNonGarter · 13/09/2022 12:53

YABU.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful.

MsFogi · 13/09/2022 17:40

This is all getting ridiculous now - it's like the swings and other equipment in play parks being padlocked on Sundays in N Ireland to force people to respect the Sabbath/Sundays decades ago!!

Respectful? To renege on holiday terms? It's a pr own goal.
