I can just picture the smug look on the poster's face as they believe they've played a killer debate ending trump card - it isn't. It's just plain lazy and utterly unhelpful

Do you mean "what would you do if your daughter came to you and said her partner was treating her like this?" for example?

It's been said in relation to schools and doctors being closed next Monday. A poster is asking for help with a problem and some people reply:

What would you do on a snow day? Do that.

What would you do if your child was ill? Do that.

What would you do on a normal Bank Holiday? Do that.

I've seen it many other times too.

I suppose if you’re not impacted to the point some of these posters are (operations being cancelled after months and months of waiting time, funerals of loved ones being cancelled) it’s easy to provide a glib response.

Surely they are just giving basic advice. It's not the first time things have closed unexpectedly and we all managed somehow so we know how it works. Can't give any further advice really as don't know your individual circumstances which will differ from theirs so a generic response as given is the only thing a intone can really say?!

Agree that the "what would you do on a normal bank holiday" one is stupid - prepare for it more than 10 days in advance and/or not have the appointment booked in the first place, I assume? But equally, parents complaining about the schools being closed for one day as though it's the end of the world is really annoying (assuming it's just an inconvenience and not causing them to miss anything life-changing - I can see how for a tiny minority of people it could potentially cause real issues).
