Funeral and Traffic

We are due to travel to Gatwick on Sunday and I may of panicked and booked a hotel room for the Saturday night as I have been worrying all day about the increased traffic due to the Queen's funeral. Our journey is 5 hours without any additional traffic. I completely forgot we have a family event on Sat early evening and now I feel awful for my DH as he will miss the event(it is a one time event involving a close family member).

So traffic wise is it really going to be manic? Am I crazy missing the event (it is very outing hence not naming it)? Or am I right to think that there will be an ungodly amount of traffic as it was best to play it safe?

You’re being mad.

Can you still go to the family event for DH, and then head over so you travel late at night? That way you can get some sleep with the 5hrs of driving already done, and get on with your day

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/09/2022 06:53

Public’s being strongly encouraged to use public transport. I couldn’t afford the congestion charges to drive into London. Probably couldn’t park anyway.
Id go to the family event and maybe leave an hour or two earlier than usual.

What time is the latest you can be at airport at on Sunday?

If it's any later than mid afternoon, go to the party - don't stay til 3am 😂, and if you leave early? 8am ish... You should be fine?

Would have thought Sunday traffic shouldn't me too awful as presumably a lot of people will be travelling Thurs /Fri or earlier for long weekend before queen 👑 funeral?

SpoonyMcFace · 13/09/2022 06:57

Just go to Gatwick after the event and sleep in the hotel when you get there.

Travellingraspberry · 13/09/2022 06:57

I would have thought most people travelling to the funeral would be going by public transport, especially if they were staying overnight Sunday for the funeral on Monday. What time is your flight?

LemonTT · 13/09/2022 07:00

Gatwick is in Surrey outside London. I’m not sure why you did what you did. Getting there on Saturday evening isn’t any different from Sunday morning.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 13/09/2022 07:01

Gatwick is nowhere near London. It would be fine.

depends where OP lives? May have to use M25.

Butterfly1066 · 13/09/2022 07:18

The M25 around Heathrow has been horrific
However around Gatwick it's been okay

sidewayswalking · 13/09/2022 07:53

Surely it very much depends on where you are travelling from?

nachoavocado · 13/09/2022 07:56

Go after the event?

girlmom21 · 13/09/2022 07:59

Why can't you just leave early on Sunday?
