It's hard to defend it rationally, really, but Queen Elizabeth always seemed better than some elected person, but King Charles doesn't. What do you think?

Well, that's good for you? Have another shrimp on the barbie in congratulations for disagreeing with what I said?

It's a misnomer saying 'shrimp' - they call them prawns like us. Just FYI.

@Aprilx
Haha "you're kidding" doesn't mean we think your making something up. It's an expression of surprise in Australia.

Correct. Americans call them shrimp, and this originated with Hoges doing an advertisement for Aussie tourism for the US market. He was instructed to say shrimp, as if he said prawns the Americans would have scratched their heads and wondered what we had on the barbie.

100% correct. We call them prawns.

Shrimp comes from that old cringey ad by Paul Hogan. It was changed to shrimp to use American slang as that's who the campaign was primarily aimed at.

I hope Australia becomes a Republic. Just to show the people here that a country can become successful as a Republic.

You get Charles as Head of State without all the pageantry and so called soft power that the UK has. It's the UK on show now - how many people in the world even know the other countries the Queen was Head of State was

I can rehearse all the arguments Monarchists have for having a Monarch as UK Head of State. I don't think many of those apply to Australia and other countries where she was also Head of State.

I couldn’t really care less.

Why single out Australia, out of interest?

Why not Canada, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Kenya, etc?

I’m from one of those countries, and so don’t have any real interest in what Australian citizens decide is best for them, in terms of their head of state.

India and Kenya really really really didn't want the UK involved in their politics.

You do know about UK history and our colonies?

India, Gandhi, partition, Pakistan etc?
Kenya, Mau Mau uprising

Entirety up to the people of Australia

I was living there in 1999 I assumed the vote would be to become a republic but that wasn’t the case
