AIBU?

To get pest control for this?

For the past few weeks, I’ve had these bugs crawling around in my front room. Half dead, or already dead.

They’re winged, but don’t appear to be flying, just crawling everywhere.

I can’t find the source. There are no obvious places they are appearing from. They appear to only be near one corner of the room, near plants, with one on the window sill, so wonder if it’s the plants?

can anyone identify them, or is it a bigger job for pest control?

They look like flying ants, though it is late in the year for them. They can get in through the tiniest crack. Ant powder works but not much good if you’ve got carpet. I doubt if they have been brought in by the plant.

I’d probably take the plants out for a few days, if no more appear then you know it’s the plants. I’d then remove them from the pots, remove as much compost as possible and repot with fresh, and give the leaves & stems a wipe before taking them back inside.

I’m more thinking that eggs have been laid in the soil and now they are hatching.

Fungus gnats. They're in your plant soil.

This actually makes sense. I have a peace lily on the window sill and the soil had dried out, so I topped up with new compost about 5 months or so ago. Must be originating from there?

I would just Chuck the plant out and see what happens
