How do I rebook cancelled NHS appointment???

NoFUturREforYOU · 12/09/2022 14:40

I'm sure other people must be in the same position, so I am hoping someone can help me.
NHS appointment we've been first on the list for for months, nearly a year has been cancelled because the day it falls on clashes with that day everything is standstill.
Can't get through to the department.
Can't get through to rebook, lines say it's busy.
Need a special login to book online, but don't have as for a child.
Only have the appointment date, NHS number, doctor, department etc.
I can't wait another year for this appointment, which is how long we've been top of the list.

Has anyone managed to get through and rebook please?

Can you say what department it is / who you're seeing? I work in a hospital and my advice would differ depending on who you were seeing.

FairyHannie · 12/09/2022 16:08

They will probably be working on sending out an alternative appointment now
That's what I've spent doing all day today!

Yes, but I am worried that appointment will be months and months as this has been the case previously.

I feel your pain.
Try PALS if it's a hospital appt

NoFUturREforYOU · 12/09/2022 16:12

It's neuro disability. Pediatrics.

^Well, our first appointment was cancelled and not rebooked for half a year during COVID.
I've literally been "at the front of the queue" for nearly a year. Hearing that today was gut wrenching. I can't wait another amount of time like that.
It's actually ridiculous how we've been abandoned constantly.^

COVID was different though. This is one day of appointments or procedures. I can only speak for what I would do and I would be finding you the first space available if you are next in the queue which it seems you are. I couldn't just magic up a space though it would take a bit of seeing what could fit in where. Also can you imagine how many people are actually calling. If the phones were being answered constantly this would be taking away the time that could be spent actually trying to figure out a solution.

I'm not making light of your situation and I can see it is frustrating but give them a chance.

NoFUturREforYOU · 12/09/2022 16:24

Pals also going to automated message.

Yes, imagining how many people are calling is exactly why I am panicking.

I don't see how COVID is that different. It wasn't the height of COVID, it was one of the break stopper or whatever they were called weeks. That was enough to put us back a year.

This has been a year of my child's life with no answers, the fall out and lack of access to appropriate medical care, therapies, allowance has all been impacted by this. I'm allowed to be pissed off.

If you were at the front of the queue with an appointment next week, they are likely to try and fit you in to either an extra on an existing clinic, or they'll put on an extra clinic. Either option will be asap, as they'll have targets to meet. I'd try again tomorrow, as our phone lines are jammed with people trying to get through, when we're trying to phone them to tell them what we've sorted out. It takes time to sort out solutions and find the people needed to cover clinics, so try to take it step by step, and leave it til tomorrow.

Overthebow · 12/09/2022 16:27

Sorry OP that must be so frustrating.

I don't understand why appointments are being cancelled. There's huge backlogs after covid, why would any trust decide to cancel appointments and make them longer? Hospitals are open on bank holidays?

NoFUturREforYOU · 12/09/2022 16:29

I assume it's because schools are closing and so staff cannot guarantee childcare. Why they can't have the funeral on Sunday I don't know.

It's nice to know a ninety six year old who is dead is deemed more important than living child.

As you know the name of the consultant, phone the main switchboard and ask for their secretary. Once you get through, be sure to ask their name and direct number for the future.

Yorkshiredolls · 12/09/2022 16:54

Give them chance! I understand your frustration but like you say many other people are in the same position. They won’t be enjoying canceling patients for a last minute bank holiday, its a massive pain. Every man and his dog is probably ringing up today panicking and clogging the phone line today whilst they are more then likely figuring out a way to squeeze in an extra clinics for the cancelled patients. Give them a bit of time and if you haven’t heard in reasonable few days chase it up again.

I don't have any faith in them "squeazing me in" as the last two cancellations resulted in months of waiting.

Its absolutely sickening my child has been dismissed for his whole life pretty much like this and people just act like it's not a big deal.

That's terrible OP. I'm not surprised you are frustrated. Maybe it would help if you posted the Area you are in?

No, I'm sorry far too identifying.
I can't do anything now because most telephone lines stop between nine and five.

Any day the funeral is arranged for would have caused inconvenience to someone. You're making it sound as though she's passed away and her funeral arranged for the 19th for the sole purpose of pissing you off.
Give it a week. The funeral date was only confirmed yesterday and you will likely have a new appointment or a phone call within that time. If this time next week you haven't been contacted then email PALS. I've always found them very helpful.

Oh ok. My constructive advice is to not rant to the hospital that they’re putting a dead 96 year old before your living child, because you’ll only look unhinged. You’re welcome

NoFUturREforYOU · 12/09/2022 17:30

Hospital appointments would be far less effective on a Sunday.
Sorry that you lack the empathy to realise how this vanity project is effecting my life.

I'm nhs op and I'd think they'll automatically slot you into the next available slot. They will re arrange it and notify you but obviously I can't comment on when etc x

It’s great that you have enough self importance to think the queen’s funeral has been planned purely to inconvenience you but I can assure you it hasn’t
