Have you ever had a friend that's never available, cancels etc. Or basically just doesn't initiate stuff, then as soon as they become single they want to meet up all the time?
It happened to me with someone I don't stay in touch with anymore, i had invited her to a party 4 months prior, she declined and then didn't hear a word for 4 months.
Then she got in touch out of the blue asking if I wanted to meet up, and told me she was newly single.
I met up with her and then that week she literally wanted to meet nearly every day. It was too much for me both socially and financially so I said I couldn't.
But it was just that, going from nothing in months to full on, wanting to meet daily.
Then it tailed off again.. i just felt like she was using me a bit as she had never been that interested until she was single.

Yes, I've had this a few times. I'm not sure it's deliberately unkind. I've had friends who get totally wrapped up in their romantic relationships and then suddenly wanting to hang out all the time when they are single again. It's up to you if you want to make yourself available to them or not isn't it?

Sorry, didn't answer your actual question! You probably were used, but not necessarily in a calculated way.

carefullycourageous · 12/09/2022 09:13

I don't think you're being used in a calculated way either, but I can see why if this person has huge gaps between contact you don't see them as a priority.

I have some people I class as 'mates' not friends and if they invite me to something I say yes if I fancy it but they are not my priority due to me not being their priority either.

You were used - but she probably wouldn't have seen it like that, or done it in a malicious way.

Some people get so all-consumed by a romantic relationship, that when it ends, they physically don't know what to do with themselves.

Polimolly · 12/09/2022 15:30

I would class that as "being used", but it's clear that for her you are not a close friend

Sorry, I meant I would NOT
