Lidl! Waste of money!

So am I being unreasonable?

Tried Lidl for the first time Wednesday, it's now Saturday and I have already had to throw 2 lots of fruit and salad stuff out!
What a waste of money.

Is this what Lidl is like? Seriously thought it would last longer than 2 days!

Never been to either, never fancied stuff with no brand.. shan't bother ever going now I've read this!

I've started shopping at Lidl less and less recently. Not sure if it's just my local store but I've found Lidl in general have had some stock issues for quite a while now. I read that amongst other things it's because of staff shortages in their distribution centres?

Lidl isn’t very good but Aldi is very good for most things. Not fruit and veg though.

Berrocca dupes (exactly the same ingredients) 85p for 20 tablets!

Fake Nakd bars (Tru bars)
Nuts
Fake Kind bars
intensive hand cream

Tru bars have peanuts in so check ingredients

Yess! Never bother with either of them. Nuts were soft and horrible in the bag. Bread and butter pudding already mouldy. Pasta salad sour and inedible. Bread had a BB of two days' time.

The only things I've found them good for are Babybel, crumpets, and kids' biscuits/snack bars. And the saving isn't worth a trip.

Doing a full shop there would be a total waste because I'd have to throw most of it out.

I bought parsnips, broccoli and a cauliflower on Monday from Aldi and it's still perfectly OK in the veg drawer in the fridge. I'll be using most of it tomorrow for dinner.

I've had the odd veg that didn't last long but I've had that also from both Asda and Tesco.

Fresh fruit veg uncooked meat and fish never last as long. Some things are good like cooked meats and the different cheeses. I like their themed weeks where they do some unique tasty stuff. I find for a main shop it's a false economy I shop at Sainsbury's get a lot of the basic fruit veg fish and meat it lasts the full week. I get top ups from other places.

it isnt the law to shop at lidl - all the more for me,
they oftenn run out of things, there are no guarantees, i like the cheapness

I live in the south west and in both of our 2 nearest Lidls the fruit and veg is fab. Good quality, variety and lasts ages. The fresh meat and fish always has quite a short shelf life though.
Aldi has better variety and if they delivered I'd probably use them a lot more.l, but it's a bit of a trek to our nearest one.

@dalel I only buy enough for one or two meals from there, but I feel you pain.
I went today to Lidl to get food for tea. And ended up having to throw our whole meal away as the grated cheese I got was mouldy but we didn't notice until it had been sprinkled all over the meal.

(Don't usually buy pre grated cheese, but fridge is broken and it's possible to store the grated cheese in the freezer).

Fruit and veg from my local Lidl is fine. Lasts as long as from anywhere else. Lots more British produce than the big 4 supermarkets too.

I was in aldi recently and was surprised that it really wasn't much cheaper than tesco / Sainsbury's (and I couldn't get my full shop there). So I will go if I need something specific ie face cream but otherwise won't bother

Aldi and Lidl feels like I’m actually in a European shop. Not in a good way either.

In Tesco I can scan as I shop, put the shopping straight in the bags and go. I know my balance and there’s lots of choice.

Aldi and Lidl feels like a cattle market, being rushed at the checkouts. The staff there are on targets aren’t they? Don’t they have to scan so many products per hour?

But we are trying to save money and willing to try again.

Is Aldi cheaper than Tesco? I haven’t gone there enough to really compare.

I agree but then I’ve also found that the fresh fruit I buy in Tesco really doesn’t last well either. Shopped in Waitrose when we were on holiday recently and the (better) quality of the fruit and veg was quite an eye opener.

I did an Aldi shop and compared it to sainsburys and the price difference was almost non existent. As. Don’t drive it would actually cost me more to shop in Aldi.

IMO they started cheap to draw in customers and have been going up gradually enough that people aren’t noticing and are more or less on par with sainsburys now.

The Aldi price match isn’t a bargain thing at all, it’s that tesco/sainsburys/Aldi have decided collectively to charge certain prices for certain produce, much as many other brands do across shops.

Aldi price matched doesn’t mean cheaper, but it lures people in because they think it does.

A bit like Black Friday.

If I had one near enough I’d get all my fruit and veg ( the fresh stuff!) from m&s - Waitrose is a close second IMO.

I don’t mind Lidl though there’s nowhere near as much choice, their maple pork shanks are amazing !!

Never had any issues with Lidl or Aldi fruit and veg.

I loathe both of them. I hate the way they are laid out, the way things are thrown into the middle of the aisles and most of all I hate the silly till system.

I would put up with all of that is the food was decent but it isn't. I bought two bags of salad and a couple of cucumbers that lasted two days and went mushy. The range of goods was shockingly poor and the whole experience was like finding myself back in Kwik Save in 1979. Sainsbury's price match some of their veg and chicken and it's much better quality.

Both fine here, they last ok, much better than rip off sainsburys!
I eat masses of fruit

Imo nothing fresh from lidl lasts. I freeze the meat the day I buy it unless I'm using it within two days. My son says the fruit is off when he eats it. When I shop I also go maybe twice a week but unless I'm going past that's a pita.

The stock is limited and its past 2pm probably out of stock too.

There's lots to hate about lidl and aldi so it's only worth the saving imo 1) if its close 2) you buy enough of their brands to make a decent saving.

I won't stop shopping there but I am finding myself back in Sainburys more often now as there's not the choice or stock in Lidl. Maybe more people have switched over because my local never ever has anything in the salad part. Never has non wholemeal pasta.

I'm saving more right now with just careful meal planning

Lidl is rubbish for veg and fruit. Doesn't last at all. Great for other stuff though
