AIBU?
Creepiest thing in the playground
SuperGinger · 09/09/2022 22:08
We went out to dinner near Exmouth Market this evening, when we went back to the car around 9.10pm we walked past a locked playground, inside, alone was a child aged about 7 on a swing all dressed in white, giggling and saying "Higher! Higher!" AiBU completely unreasonable to find this freaky. It was so odd, I didn't know if stop to ask her if she was OK. DD also thought it strange, DH and DS didn't notice her.
Am I being unreasonable?

I thought it was a question - I was going to say Jimmy Savile.

Are you sure there wasn’t an adult with her? If not, why didn’t you go and check she was ok?

Sounds perfectly normal to me. I frequently see small children dressed all in white playing on the swings after dark. I think white is a poor choice but it's not for me to judge other parents.
The dad who holds his head under his arm though...he creeps me out. I mean sure he can hold it up and look behind him etc. but it's a bit performance parenting if you ask me. Just keep it on your neck like everyone else!

Is this one of those tedious "if you know, you know" things?
What exactly is the point?
FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 09/09/2022 22:21
If this was true then you've just left a 7yr old alone at night in a playground without checking they're ok. I'm not sure anyone would actually do that and I'm fairly sure if they did they wouldn't admit it.

Yes I'm sure you left a small child in a locked playground in the dark on their own

But they weren't alone. They were saying "higher, higher" so obviously someone (something) invisible was with them pushing 😉

Was there someone singing “do you wanna be in my gang” anywhere ?
tillytoodles1 · 09/09/2022 22:46
So you didn't think to shout through the railings to ask if she was OK?
RaRaRaspoutine · 09/09/2022 22:50
Ah yes the famous exmouth consumptive child swing ghost.

How long will it be before we get a deletion message saying this ghostly thread is not in the spirit? 😉

Ever noticed that ghosts are always from way back? Why don't we see any in ugg boots and rara skirts, holding a flip phone?

Oh my goodness, was this Spa Fields by any chance? You might have seen Countess Demelza! She was the daughter of Count Heinrich von Balonz, a distant relative of Queen Mary. She died of consumption in the Twenties and her ghost is said to regularly appear in the playground.
