Totes babes.

Fullmoonagain · 09/09/2022 23:20

It's a term of endearment, there are worse things to be called.

Dadaya · 09/09/2022 23:22

I love it. Helps me filter out the numpties in the same way that owning a Live Laugh Love wall plaque does.

Batshittery · 09/09/2022 23:22

Rolypolyfishheads · 09/09/2022 23:19

I hate being called chick. Really not sure why it grates on me so much.

I sometimes called people 'chuck', as in thanks chuck.
Is that bad? Blush

Speedbumps · 09/09/2022 23:24

I like any term of endearment. I wouldn't mind Hun (though the spelling does grate) but I can't remember anyone calling me that actually. I like being called love, lovely, sweetheart, etc. Especially by random strangers. I think it sounds warm and affectionate.

What I hate is men saying mate. It always sounds aggressive or at least I've only heard it being said aggressively.

My DH calls everyone mate 😂 I do quite often too. I think it’s because we’re not really familiar people - I’d only call a relative babe or honey or something, but if we’re trying to be friendly/forge a relationship ‘mate’ seems friendly without being too much.

SheWoreYellow · 10/09/2022 09:41

I like any term of endearment, which is surprising, because I am generally not a sentimental sort.

ladywithnomanors · 10/09/2022 09:42

I don’t mine being called hun, chick , duck/ducky - it’s just a habit some people have (my DH included) and isn’t meant to be offensive, quite the opposite!
I don’t use these terms though except to my DC who I call sweetie/ monkey .

Remagirl · 10/09/2022 09:47

Hate it, it's a chav word.

SunnieShine · 10/09/2022 09:52

To be fair, I've been called worse...😁

funkylittleboatrace · 10/09/2022 09:54

I hate it! It really puts me off people when they call me hun.

notacooldad · 10/09/2022 09:54

It really doesn't bother me but as with a lot of things context is everything.
One of the women at my work says it and it's not meant to be patronising or condescending. She will say things like ' Hi Hun did you have a nice weekend?" Nothing wrong with at at all.
I cant get wound up over 'love' ' babe' and all the other words that are used as long as they arent meant to be disrespectful.
Years ago I would have. Perhaps I've mellowed.🤷‍♀️

Coastalcreeksider · 10/09/2022 09:55

Yes, I'd rather be called love than hun. Babes is awful too.

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/09/2022 09:57

I despise being called hun and I equally despise when women replace full stops or question marks with kisses.

"How are you hun kiss kiss kiss"

Instantly makes me feel like they're simpletons and they usually turn out to be, actually.

I don't know where this trend came from but it is just dumb.

GucciBear · 10/09/2022 09:58

Absolutely hate it. I object to being called a "guy" as well.

notacooldad · 10/09/2022 09:58

You dont live near me then!
It's used all the time where I'm from. Eg ''hiya mate, how y' doin' " nothing aggressive about that at all. BTW the answer is always " not so bad, you?" Even if you are at death's door!🤣

VanillaIce1 · 10/09/2022 09:58

Hate being called Hun.
My husband does it to wind me up all the time. You okay hun? Fuck off.
Hmm

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 10/09/2022 10:01

I’m not a big fan, but it depends on who it comes from.

Butchyrestingface · 10/09/2022 10:02

I am a Scots Catholic of Irish extraction so it's a no from me, Brucie.

I know the word has different meanings/connotations elsewhere, but that's not what I think of when I see the word. Grin

Supersad · 10/09/2022 10:04

I don't really care what people call me! 🙃I'm always more bothered by the tone and intent of speech than the actual words used.

SwordToFlamethrower · 10/09/2022 10:05

GucciBear · 10/09/2022 09:58

Me too! In the 90s, people said "guys and gals" and it got shortened to just "guys". When people use it, I usually take the time to find an opportunity to say "hi lasses!" And if anyone questions it, I say it is a gender neutral term, like "guys". Usually I'm quite snarky but I find it makes people think about (and hopefully question) defaulting everything to male.

Like "oh look at that little frog, he is so cute!"

"Oh, how can you tell it is a male? Are there distinguishing characteristics you can point out to me?"

Really grinds my gears.

And yes, I am fun at parties!

At 45 years of age, I am sick of how backwards society is going in regards to female visibility and inclusion.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 10/09/2022 10:05

I cannot bear it.

Also, call me babe and see what happens. I dare you...........

Imissmoominmama · 10/09/2022 10:06

Discovereads · 09/09/2022 22:13

”Hun” is an ethnic slur which no one has ever liked being called.

or did you mean “hon”?

Most people type hun.

I hate it.

Folklore9074 · 10/09/2022 10:08

Its the false intimacy that gets me. Just use my name (or ask what my name is!)

Supersad · 10/09/2022 10:09

I think you would drive me insane!
