To be furious with Lloyds online banking?

Keyansier · 09/09/2022 18:09

I logged onto my internet banking with Lloyds Bank and upon signing in was greeted with a message about The Queen passing away and giving solitude to Lloyds bank customers. Erm, does anyone else think that this is slightly WTF territory? How dare they assume their customers feelings? AIBU to think banks should not be giving out political messages like this? It's okay to say if they are sorry for someone dying, I'm not expecting them to be someone's pro-death, but AIBU to think they should stay out of giving what might be seen as provocative statements like this to people that may be against the idea of the Royal Family?

It's not political, but I am getting a bit irritated by all the companies who have nothing to do with the royal family jumping on the bandwagon.

If the name of your company or organisation begins with "Royal", then fair enough. Otherwise stop virtue signalling.

To clarify, changing your website to a have a black outline or whatever is reasonable, imo. Actively emailing me is over the top - again, imo.

I'm quite frankly astonished that nobody so far has agreed with me tbh. I thought more people would agree with my stance on this. I am a fan of the Royal Family, just thought this was out-of-touch by Lloyds.

It's a company trying to have empathy with the General public, like how quite a lot of universities are changing their Facebook logos, to show solidarity with the Queen, yes not everyone will gel, and appreciate the company's perspectives

Consideration that they are company's that do business in the United kingdom and the Queen is a big part of the United kingdom, then how can companies not have a part with the royal family.

WhiteFire · 09/09/2022 19:23

I thought it was going to be a tale of how you lost all your money after they had done some dastardly act.

Oh well at least you still have your money.

WhiteFire · 09/09/2022 19:25

Is it not just protocol? What do other countries do in their periods of national mourning?

Dguu6u · 09/09/2022 19:26

"AIBU to think banks should not be giving out political messages like this?"

Well she probably had a nice share of that £££££ fortune in their bank so I'm sure they have been very grateful for her custom

CapMarvel · 09/09/2022 19:38

Furious is probably a little OTT.

I would have rolled my eyes though, as I have been all day at the emails from shops etc telling me how sad they are. I don't care if Next are upset that the Queen is dead, thanks.

AlwaysGinPlease · 09/09/2022 19:39

Imagine that making you angry. Wow,

Keyansier · 09/09/2022 20:02

mam0918 · 09/09/2022 19:11

Its a bank she is LITRALLY on the money, she is a major part of the main part if their business and yes all non deranged people care that an old lady died... so shut up ffs.

You sound utterly charming and delightful.

Can you explain what you are actually upset about?
They assumed your feelings ? what lol

Is it like when someone says 'have a wonderful day' - don't assume how my day will go!?

I don't actually get it, genuinely

A voice of reason in a sea of misunderstanding! Thank you for understanding where I'm coming from.

I have no idea, I'm not a resident of other countries so have no clue, and that wasn't my question.

I'm no expert but I don't think the Queen would have banked with the likes of Lloyds.

Her face is on money. Are you furious everytime you see cash?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Toottooot · 09/09/2022 20:14

Close your account immediately. There is no other option.

listsandbudgets · 09/09/2022 20:14

I suppose you could try changing bank if it upsets you that much but not Barclays as they have the same. Nothing on Monzo though so give them a try.

You're being ridiculous, she was the head of state

peasandcarrrotttss · 09/09/2022 20:17

How on Earth is this in any way offensive? You need to get a grip.

How do you use cash if she bothers you so much?

What does "giving solitude" even mean. Do you mean "solace"?

largeprintagathachristie · 09/09/2022 20:26

Every website I’ve been on today has had this.
Boots Chemist, for example.

Ir’s performative but not something that bothers me. I was able to do my internet banking on the Lloyds site as I’m sure you were. Scrolling past a picture of the Queen took a nano second.

I mean, Poundland, Cash Converters and Domino’s Pizza are among the companies who did sympathy tweets, so it’s going to be absolutely everywhere.

Hobbs have sent me an email specifically to say they won’t be emailing, which is somehow particularly irritating and “look at me”. They’re having a “period of silence across their channels”.

alwaysdarkestbeforedawn · 09/09/2022 19:08

@Keyansier Ah I see. So it’s only banks that warrant your anger. Other businesses can express their condolences if they please. Thank you for explaining and saving me from disappointment.

I suspect you find yourself funny. Good luck with thinking that.

Ok, well good for you?? But I don't use Twitter and don't follow Poundland or Cash Converters, and Dominos Pizza is absolutely disgusting so don't track them either, so I had no idea if they were sympathy tweeting The Queen. Also, couldn't care less what Hobbs emailed you, it wasn't my question.

Oh, don’t be silly.

Also, there’s nothing on my Lloyds online banking. Screenshot or it didn’t happen.

YABU either way.

winewolfhowls · 09/09/2022 20:33

Actually the last few times I've had to phone Lloyds there has been a long queue to speak to a person but when you do they have been really warm and helpful in tone and resolved my issues. Which is more important than the wording of a one off pop up notification.
