On holiday with the beginnings of quite awful cystitis…I’ve drunk the hotel room dry of bottled water and used my only cystitis sachet brought from home….. Sleeping DP and DC next to me and I’m in agony. No idea what to do now, except drink the tap water and pray, anyone have any great at home remedies?)!

Aww no, I used to get this quite often and the pain is just awful. Keep topped up on paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain, a heat compress like a hot water bottle (or warm bath) can also help the pain. Take antibiotics as soon as you can get your hands on them. If the hotel has cranberry juice, drink loads of that. Garlic also helps (it’s like a natural antibiotic) .

I used to have this frequently after becoming sexually active. Would drive me crazy. I actually read a book (don’t remember what it’s called) on preventing cystitis. Hygiene is really important as a preventative, like washing with soap after pooping (wiping isn’t good enough to remove the E. coli bacteria) . Also always pee after sex. And I also take a cranberry supplement and garlic supplements daily. Also drink a lot of cranberry juice. So far these measures seem to have done the trick (touches wood).

But you have my sympathies, it’s a horrid thing to go through, especially on holiday , hope your feeling better soon.

Oh and definitely don’t drink the tap water if it’s not safe to drink, could make you even more poorly
