I’ve shed a tear privately this evening after feeling sadness most of the day following the news regarding her majesty.

Part of me feels ridiculous, I didn’t know her personally but the sadness is real.

Did you have a little cry? I feel silly

No - didn't know her, nor she me. She was just an 96 year old over privileged billionaire. She died, it happens. I don't believe in monarchy, don't believe in jobs for life by accident of birth and had no respect for her buying off the victims of her son and her sons friends.
I'll keep my tears for real tragedies.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 08/09/2022 23:40

I'm finding all the Paddington Bear pictures mawkish I'm afraid. And as for the poem....

She was a strong woman, she had a good life and I doubt we'll see her like again. Let's acknowledge that.

Helgadaley · 08/09/2022 23:41

I feel silly with you then. I can't believe how sad I am. I never met her, I don't really believe the monarchy is a good thing, and yet I'm unexpectedly sad.

SylviasMotherSaid · 08/09/2022 23:41

I understand people being upset but someone I know posted a selfie video on Instagram of them crying about the queen which I found totally bizarre and just very strange .

SemperIdem · 08/09/2022 23:41

It is a poignant passing, due to her length of service and the utter turmoil the nation is currently in.

It struck me today that I only know one living person who remembers her coronation and a bit of life before that, they were 14 in 1952.

Sparklingbrook · 08/09/2022 23:41

The Paddington stuff is really strange. In fact all of the little cartoons are.

mondaytosunday · 08/09/2022 23:42

No. I respected and admired her but she had minimal impact on my life. I'm sad she's passed away but she was a good age and it was coming, I feel she went how she'd want to - working til the end.

lollipoprainbow · 08/09/2022 23:42

I have, it's the end of an era. She was always there.

You said it better than me.

xxcatcatcatxx · 08/09/2022 23:44

I’ve been crying all evening xxx

mumda · 08/09/2022 23:44

Be comfortable expressing your emotions. She's been queen all our lives.
Why would you not be sad?

dinosaurcookie · 08/09/2022 23:45

@BeetrootBeetrootGhali Agreed.
I'm a bit peeved that because I feel this way I'm perceived as having no empathy. It is super sad for her family and appreciate the historical significance but other than that...

LizzieW1969 · 08/09/2022 23:46

I did shed a tear, to my surprise as it wasn’t exactly a surprise as she had become very frail. I’m also not particularly a Royalist, though I’ve always had respect for her personally.

I think it was more because it was the end of an era and because she’s always been a constant presence in our national life.

danadas · 08/09/2022 23:49

I shed a tear too. I'm not really one to cry but reading posts on Twitter choked me up and set me off. Felt a bit daft and my reaction took me by surprise

That is beyond weird.

nocoolnamesleft · 08/09/2022 23:52

I expected to be unmoved. She has had a long live, and what sounds like a good death. I never met her. Yet I find myself slightly weepy. Odd. I think it's the end of the era element.

Starfishswimmer · 08/09/2022 23:52

Yes it’s actually made me feel so sad
and really sad for Harry
that photo of him in the car 😰😰

lollipoprainbow · 08/09/2022 23:53

@Starfishswimmer really feel for Harry, the queen definitely had a soft spot for him.

GarlandsinGreece · 08/09/2022 23:53

I cried. Absolutely. I think had she passed during a time of economic boom and political stability, it might have felt slightly less overwhelming.

1982mommaof4 · 08/09/2022 23:53

I love the royals... I did not expect to be this upset. I have been sobbing all evening.

She was a wonderful dedicated women

whimsicalwillow · 08/09/2022 23:54

I cried too. It feels like a little part of my past has gone and things will never be the same. Obviously I'd never met her, but she was just always there as part of the fabric of our way of life. Whenever you saw her on tv she had her handbag, black patent shoes, same hairstyle, brightly coloured clothes, nothing ever changed, she carried on despite all the turmoil in the world. Maybe it's because I'm getting older it reminds you that nothing stays the same forever.
My husband watched a lot of the tv coverage with me, and admitted her felt sad too. My son went to the pub to raise a glass to her and also admitted he felt strange about it. Neither of them could be classed as monarchists either.
My daughter cried too. It's ok to cry to express our emotion regardless of the reason.

1982mommaof4 · 08/09/2022 23:54

Tania64 · 08/09/2022 23:30

No I don't know the woman. I hate what she represents & am resentful & angry that she has lived a life of luxury at poor peoples expense. If I cried it would be with anger & frustration. All of this crying people do over these 'royals' is an absolute joke. What will you do if someone you love dies? Cry? So the Queen means as much to you as your children, your spouse or your extended family?

What absolute rubbish.. crying for someone does not mean you love them more than family. Utter bollox

Teacupsandtoast · 08/09/2022 23:55

@Sparklingbrook Please accept my sincerest apologies for offending your sensibilities with my phrasing 🙄

OnlyEverAutumn · 08/09/2022 23:55

@SylviasMotherSaid ah the insta generation - Buck House is currently surrounded by people desperately performance grieving via selfies and SM posts. Deeply weird.

Teacupsandtoast · 08/09/2022 23:31

The 'Hello again Lilibet' image doing the rounds had me ugly crying
