The two Elizabeths

It’s just struck me that Queen Elizabeth’s last PM is also an Elizabeth.

I Hope Liz Truss carries that with her …I wonder if they talked about having the same name. I wonder how that felt for Her Majesty. A names a name but still..

Yes that struck me earlier too.
Although Liz Truss's first name is Mary. Which I think is one of the queen's mide names?

FlissyPaps · 08/09/2022 22:29

Takes what with her exactly? …. A name???

eastegg · 08/09/2022 22:37

It struck me a few weeks ago, as I’m an Elizabeth, that, having had a monarch with the same name my entire life, we were now likely to have a PM as well. My DH then pedantically pointed out that LT is actually a Mary.

Today it feels like a very poor ‘swap’. RIP the proper Elizabeth.

carefullycourageous · 08/09/2022 22:38

And of course Liz Truss wanted to do away with the monarchy, wonder if they discussed that!

luxxlisbon · 08/09/2022 22:42

Honestly what 😂

It has consistently been an incredibly popular name for literally decades. Meeting someone else with the same name will hardly have been a rarity for either of them. I’m sure they didn’t think twice about it.

Quite. I think people are going insane already.

Why on earth would it mean anything to either of them?

It's more notable that our new prime minister's surname refers to a garment used to alleviate hernia.

😂😂Following on from the one who is a euphemism for penis. Quite the set those Tories are going for.

I think it is far more weird that Elizabeth 1 and 2 were both 25 when they ascended the throne.

BigBearLittleBear · 08/09/2022 23:10

I heard that when George Canning and George IV realised they had the same name they laughed so much that the King ruptured his pancreas and that’s why he had to wear a corset for the rest of his reign.

And then you add the former US President whose name is a euphemism for a loud fart. Kind of sums up politics, really.
