To not understand Papergang boxes

Tootief · 06/09/2022 08:58

I know subscription boxes can be expensive, wasteful and an environmental nightmare but I do see the appeal.

However I don't understand Papergang.

I'm not their target market (whispers: I think you CAN have too many pens and notebooks) but who exactly are they aimed at?

I got a free box for my 12 year old. It had some good stationary and... temporarily tattoos. It seems like a grown up box (with some "cuteness") but then what adult wants fake tiger tattoos?

She loved it and asked for a subscription for her birthday. At full price, not chance but I managed to get a good offer and she pretty much eats notebooks. However I just don't get it because looking at past boxes online you get things like childish stickers which I can't see appealing to even a 12 year old but then you get really good scissors as well.

I'm just a bit confused and trying to avoid going to work by posting inane questions

I don't know the answer but I'm off to Google Papergang. I love stationery and no OP you can never have too many notebooks Grin

MimosaSunrise · 06/09/2022 09:18

I had a Spotlight Stationery subscription (heard about them on here actually) for about two years which I really enjoyed. I did end up with too many notebooks, which is why I stopped it, but plan to start again at some point.

This looks very similar, but with a younger angle. Wouldn’t suit me as I don’t want fake tattoos and other cutesy stuff either, but stationery is so popular that it’s not a surprise there is demand for different flavours of a subscription service.

Crocwok · 06/09/2022 09:23

They often collab with particular artists, the stuff tends to be in line with the sort of stuff ohh deer sell. I used to have a subscription as I had some vouchers, I did like a few of them but seems excessive each month, I was also confused exactly who it was aimed at. If she's anything like me though the exciting bit is not knowing what you're getting rather than the stuff itself hah.

Blimey! Ive just looked and how much?!

Dd would love it but I can’t bring myself to buy it.

Soproudoflionesses · 06/09/2022 09:26

Just wondering what tonget dd's friend for her birthday - think this might have helped me out! Thanks op.

Tootief · 06/09/2022 09:28

@MimosaSunrise that's expensive but actually looks very nice... if you use 2 notebooks a month! 🤣

@MerlinsButler 🤣 Take a look at their sales page if you're ok with past boxes. You get 10% off if you give them your email.

@Soubriquet I got a set of past boxes and will give one to her each month. She won't know the difference! Hopefully there won't be duplicates! Worked out at £5 a box.

If the boxes include 'childish stickers' and 'good scissors' as well as notebooks and pens etc, then it sounds like they might be aimed more at the creative journaling/bullet journaling/planner addicts hobby market. A lot of people who are into that use kiddy stickers, little ink stamps etc and are obsessed with trying out new pens. I do a lot of creative journaling etc and although I'm personally not into the twee sticker aesthetic, I'm definitely outnumbered by people who are.

Hi OP did you use a code to get that price and are you able to share it please? Grin

Tootief · 06/09/2022 10:03

@tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz I can't find it on the site anymore but here is the link:

ohhdeer.com/products/10-mystery-papergang-boxes?utm_campaign=order-confirmation-email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=OrderlyEmails&utm_content=product

Then sign up to the emails to get 10% off. Hopefully there won't be any duplicate boxes but it's a risk.

One word op. Stationery!

I loved it at that age and still do now, though don't buy it anymore. Pencils with little pencils in a pouch on the rubber end. Smelly pens, rubbers, notebooks. We have an amazing little shop here when I was a teen which was full of it and I loved just looking around.

Tootief · 06/09/2022 10:57

@longtompot giant pencils with packets of mini pencils attached were the best!

One year my mum got plastic pencil cases for my friends that looked liked pencils and even had a tip that could write and a rubber at the top. I still remember how hard done by I felt because she was buying them for my friends but I wasn't allowed one. 🤣

I had a few boxes in 2020 and loved them, notebooks, stickers, pens etc make me so happy. I cancelled my subscription when a couple of boxes went missing and I wasn't given a replacement.
