I would be wondering where I had gone wrong, certainly.

I don't think I could ever cut dd off though. My love for her is unconditional, I believe.

Impossible to say how we'd actually react in reality though. Like I say, dd would have to be a completely different person before she could go off and join the Tory party, so it's hard to imagine a scenario in which this could happen.

I wonder if her extreme right wing posturing is actually all some kind of delayed teenage rebellion. 🤔

I don't think Truss' dad has literally cut her off in the never-darken-my-door-again sense. He has publicly refused to support her politically, which is a bit different.

Ah, yes, well if that's the case, I agree that's very different.

I certainly wouldn't voice any support for my dd as a politician with views that I found abhorrent.

vera99 · 06/09/2022 14:35

I like her dad sounds like a top bloke and very popular with his students.

54isanopendoor · 06/09/2022 15:28

@vera99
I take the points you have quoted but I think that people will be trying to save energy costs even IF they are frozen @ todays prices because the cost of living is going up in all other areas as well, especially food (& fuel, compared to 12m ago). So, people will still be economical with the heating this winter anyway.

vera99 · 06/09/2022 15:35

Saving energy wherever you can is no bad thing we have certainly changed our habits for the better but some don't have the luxury of a financial cushion and are close to or over the edge already. It seems crazy to be so untargeted if true and benefitting the energy companies and other shareholders so generously.

StarDolphins · 05/09/2022 22:30

@83DanishMum nobody currently. I have flitted from Labour to Tories for many years with no loyalty to either party. Probably more votes for CP but I passionately dislike Truss, Starmer & Corbyn.

if there was a GE now at this point, I wouldn’t vote. Awful I know, but absolutely none of them are fit for purpose imo.

Fair enough. I'm surprised anyone could "passionately" dislike Starmer though. I can understand people find him boring or whatever.

BooksAndChooks · 06/09/2022 16:34

No system is perfect, but for households I would prefer to see a tiered rate where the first x units of energy (low usage) is relatively cheap, then y (moderate usage) is more moderately priced and z (high usage) is expensive. Exceptions made for those whose high usage is essential due to medical conditions.

I don't want to be paying for Sue down the road's hot tub parties. Let Sue pay for those. There are plenty who are sensible with the energy use and plenty others who aren't because "we can afford it".

Haha yes he doesn't seem the passion inspiring type!

Cornettoninja · 06/09/2022 16:38

@BooksAndChooks maybe if we’d had a half competent cabinet in power back in the first couple of quarters of the year a more complicated system like the one you’re suggesting could have been implemented, as it is we’re a few short weeks away from the next round of price rises and I doubt they’ve got the time to implement anything like that successfully.

vera99 · 06/09/2022 16:39

Yes, Sir Keir Starmer is a decent honourable man - who was a barrister who rose to the highest role as DPP. He is loyal to his wife and children, has a blameless life and bought a donkey sanctuary for his ailing mum. His wife who works in the NHS is Jewish and has two children who are brought up in the faith. Anyone hating on him needs to have a good look in the mirror. And as to boring well if I want a clown I will go to the circus. Corbyn was a hedonistic womaniser in comparison as well as being much farther to the left. But both were blameless as to extravagant expenses, corruption or 'bungs' - in the current Tory camp, such probity is like the proverbial rocking horse shit.

vera99 · 06/09/2022 16:40
