I don't believe in supporting women at any cost but there have been a fair number of personal attacks on her on this thread, which is just unnecessary but typical of the anti-Tories

👏..and always by the usual posters. I will wipe my feet on the way out and leave them to it.

Are those winter clothes still hanging around from Labour's term of WoD?

That was 43 years ago.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/09/2022 16:16

All the whinging Labour voters on here, if Labour were so great they’d have won the last election. They didn’t.

As for Truss, she cannae be any worse than Bumbling Boris.

PS: I’m a non Tory voter btw.

SleeplessInEngland · 05/09/2022 16:20

A lot of tories thought Ben Wallace should have the job. The fact that he was smart enough to realise now would be a terrible time to do so and not try only makes him look more qualified.

Like fuck are you a non Tory voter.

Whatafustercluck · 05/09/2022 16:20

Which cabinet position will Johnson get?

Also, I'm a bit of a prosecco socialist. I don't think there's anything wrong with being a higher earner who understands that privilege exists, yet wants to play an active part in ensuring everyone gets the same opportunities regardless of privilege.

Disclaimer: my Dad was a builder/ plumber and my mum was a TA at a school for the severely disabled if that bolsters my socialist credentials.

It will be interesting to see if she can match his enormous capacity for self-sabotage.

You are aware there are more than 2 political parties in the UK, right?

In my life I think I have voted for labour in a GE maybe once. I won't in 2024.

I still think Truss is thick as shit, completely unhinged and is in no way fit to be PM.

GoTeamRocket · 05/09/2022 16:23

Her 'big ideas' include removing employment rights. She is just another corrupt, self serving Conservative. The only people she will look after is herself and her mates.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 05/09/2022 16:23

I would be very surprised if Truss brings him back in. The public absolutely hate him. He's facing an enquiry that could be enormously politically damaging to more people than him, and if he does come through that unscathed there's a risk he'll try and get his old job back.

Totally agree
She'll make Mrs Thatcher look almost human in comparison.

This! If you don't like the Tories on MN, you must be a Labour voter. I mean, I'd rather chew my own hands off than vote Tory, but the only times I've voted Labour have been when living in a constituency that swung between the two, and it was tactical in an attempt to keep the Tory candidate out.

Conservative HQ Ready 4 Liz First 100 days action plan.

Flood social (MN priority easy quick wins as unable to determine long time poster history)

Attack lines

  1. Is and knows what a woman is
  2. Criticism is unsisterly
  3. Will deliver (needs padding out with some guff ed)
  4. Putin wants Starmer who is really Corbyn lite.
  5. Be kind - turn opposition virtue signalling back on them.
  6. Give her a chance - she will surprise and delight us.
  7. That's it - our BlueSky team are out of ideas any guff you can come up with is most welcome.

Interns to your keyboards.

Love Lynton Crosby

FredrikaPeri · 05/09/2022 16:25

They are trying to lose the next election so they can blame labour for the shitshow they've created. Bunch of c**ts.

Honestly I don't think anyone in the higher eschalons of the Tory party has the nous to come up with and execute something as complicated as that right now.

I think this is a distinct possibility. You only have to look at the way that Torybots on here hark back to blaming Labour for pretty much everything since 1948 to see that they are a party that never takes responsibility for its own shit.

Have read that many Tory MPs want a chance to regroup and repair the party in opposition rather than continue trudging through the shitshow for another few years.

I do worry that if Labour win the next GE it will be a nightmare ride for them, and will usher the Tories back in. Rinse and repeat.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 05/09/2022 12:51

Rishi's billionaire tax avoiding wife def meant they were never going to be able to go into the next GE with him at the helm. He's missed his moment, by the time the cost of living stuff kicked in it was too late for him.

Exactly right!

jennakong · 05/09/2022 16:32

The sad fact is that there's no-one capable of the job because of the utter shitstorm in which we find ourselves.

Really think a national coalition might be more appropriate right now, there are historical precedents for this.

It seems to be eluding some people. The majority of the electorate at the last GE didn't vote either Tory or Labour, and there were more people who didn't vote at all than voted for the most popular party. But you wouldn't think it to look at some of the more recent contributions to the thread.

greenhousegal · 05/09/2022 16:38

I'm getting an angry vibe here and elsewhere on sm. Polarisation is inevitable in a voting system that means one or the other takes the seat even if the winner garners fewer votes than the total votes cast for the losing candidates. Not good for getting people engaged in their candidate or any winner other than Red or Blue. Why would people bother? It is a terrible system but suits the big two obviously.

I was reading earlier that Truss plans a massive borrowing of 100m to subvent the energy companies, thus leaving individual bills bearable, similar to Macron's initiative. But Truss is unsure whether Macron is friend or foe, so she said.

The idea that Truss even contemplates following through on disbanding the NI Protocol is bizarre. I think it might be the result of NI economy flourishing in trade with ROI whereas the rest of the UK is languishing. Can't have that now can we?

This ridiculous nonsense of "demanding" this and that from the EU, and threatening to withdraw the protocol must have the EU scratching its collective head. Go ahead Ms. Truss and we will impose trade sanctions for breaking an International Agreement. The hubris of the British knows no bounds.

I wouldn't write her off just yet. She merely needs as a first step to quell the fear of huge energy bills, and people will be relieved to start off with. Then she can go in for the kill for her buddies. Will be interesting to watch.

vera99 · 05/09/2022 16:39

At the Wembley hustings with 8000 Torybots the biggest cheers were when anyone mentioned Johnson - he will be snidely sniping from the sidelines. They are planning to fail either by accident or design or a mixture of both and will be engulfed by events anyway. That's why my money's on loot mode before the electoral bailiffs come in.

Boulton on sky news hinting at 3 more resignations before the day is out!

WhereAreWeNow · 05/09/2022 16:43

This is so fucking depressing. What have we done to deserve Truss? Or Johnson or May or Cameron?
The only positive I can find in this situation is that surely the Tories will lose the next GE now. We're a poverty stricken island, surrounded by a sea filled with our own shit, with a crumbling health service, crumbling schools, and we're facing a winter where people will starve and freeze to death. How bad does it have to be before Britain has enough of the Tories?
