Right, these seem nigh on impossible to find these days! I don't want a snuggly softy one I want one I can put on when I get out the bath to get dry I.e made of towel!
How can I find one? Please help :)

I got one years ago from Debenhams.

ChipsRoastOrBoiled · 04/09/2022 16:31

I couldn't be without mine! I think I got it from an eBay retailer. Wasn't that expensive, either. One of the best things I've ever bought.

MoniJitchell · 04/09/2022 16:40

Mine is from The White Company. I love it! Had it years and its good as new.

rwalker · 04/09/2022 16:43

Be careful I got one of eBay 100% cotton proper towel
making breakfast literally brush sleeve over flame it set on fire went up like a rocket

DixonD · 04/09/2022 16:43

Well they’re not dressing gowns; they are bath robes. Probably easier to find if you Google the right description.

They're all dressing gowns to me. I suspect it's regional or class-based. If I said bathrobe I'd feel like I was saying looking-glass for mirror or maiden for drying-rack. Like I was pretending to be someone I'm not Grin

FourChimneys · 04/09/2022 17:38

Make one, that way you can choose the fabric. Or get someone else to make it if your sewing skills aren't up to it.

I much prefer a towelling robe and have never bought a one ready made.

BeanieTeen · 04/09/2022 17:46

You’re looking for a bath robe. Like you get with a room upgrade at a hotel. It’s not a dressing gown.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/09/2022 18:33

I call my drying rack a maiden (well, we actually call it Brian). Take your point though. I would use dressing gown/bath robe interchangeably.

It's difficult buying dressing gowns online. I wanted a cotton waffle dressing gown like you get in hotels sometimes, for travelling and summer (in addition to my towelling one for drying off and my fluffy polyester one for snuggly sofa warmth… I know, I have too many dressing gowns). Bought online what I thought was the right thing, and it was waffle, and cotton, but the material was stretchy like thick T-Shirt, not at all like I was expecting.

I have this one , is that the kind of thing? I love it

😂

Yeah that's exactly what I thought I was getting.

Am stuck with this one for now, though, I think… four dressing gowns would just be silly Grin

I must have at least eight 😳

ColdComfortYarn · 04/09/2022 22:49

I've got one from the white company

InChocolateWeTrust · 04/09/2022 22:49

I sort of don't understand towelling robes outside a spa/swimming pool context.

If you use it to get dry surely you can't then sit in it comfortably as it's going to be all damp, so what's the point of having it as a robe? You might as well use a towel to get dry first that you then put to dry/air and have a dressing gown to wear dry surely.

PurpleSproutingSomething · 04/09/2022 22:50

Mine is from The White Company too, it's definitely towel material but it has a huge hood. I bloody love it.

I put on a towelling dressing gown when I'm wet, and wear it while I'm doing my teeth and my hair, sorting out my feet, that kind of thing, or I relax with a coffee, and by the time I've done that I'm dry enough to get dressed (or go to bed). I suppose it's like how you see people on TV get out of the shower and wrap a towel around them — that, but with arms. It dries quickly with your body heat so it doesn't feel soggy and horrible. I wouldn't then keep wearing it for ages though.

The main times I wear a dressing gown when already dry is if I'm naked and need to quickly and temporarily not be naked (sudden 7am parcel delivery, say, or nipping across the landing to get to the loo when staying with family), in which case I use whichever dressing gown is nearest, or in winter when I'm in my indoor chilling-out clothes and want a big warm fluffy dressing gown as well. Both of those are less frequent than popping on the towelling one after I wash.

Fozzleyplum · 04/09/2022 23:25

I've recently bought a Christy one from ebay.

mine was from Germany

That's helpful 😆

TheNoodlesIncident · 04/09/2022 23:35

@ClumpingBambooIsALie I got a white waffle bathrobe such as you describe from M&S, think it was about £20? They only do it in a personalised version for £25 now, with initials on. Mine lives on the back of the bathroom door, and I have a fluffy winter dressing gown and a lighter one for warmer seasons. Dressing gowns are fab!

(And you're right about bamboo, it all spreads evilly)

Also, the sweatier among us might want something warm and fluffy, but prefer absorbent breathable cotton towelling to fluffy synthetic dressing gowns.

Thanks Noodles! I'll have to hope this one dies a natural death quite soon and I can get myself to M&S.

I can only imagine what your username refers to… very intriguing.
